I would highly doubt this is a cut-and-dry case of refusal because he was a military member, but there is no clarification on the "misunderstanding".  I personally had the privilege to serve with SEVERAL "military members" I would gladly refuse service based on their "bow down to me because I am a Soldier" attitude.

About time. This is America, that soldier belongs here. The American soldier should be able to proudly wear his, or her uniform anywhere in America. POWDERMAN.

Story is false, until the 'soldier' comes forward. I will stroll out on a thick branch and predict this whole thing is false.... A lie designed to stir up animus, get the ignorant mob howling and to validate prejudices and hatreds. I will eat crow if the story is as initially reported.

Very unlikely any soldier will come forward, as the story is almost certainly false. From local NG officer:

“We have no idea who it might be,” said Louisiana National Guard Public Affairs Officer Lt. Col. Michael Cazmierzak. “To my knowledge, it was not a Louisiana National Guardsman or even a National Guardsman… if it even occurred.

“I have no idea of the National Guardsman in question. It was certainly none of my folks at the Bogalusa Armory, to my knowledge, not any of our full-timers and I suspect none of our part-timers.” Cazmierzak said he used to be a National Guard commander in Bogalusa, and that as far as he knows the Guard “never had any problems with a Bogalusa business at all.”

Will there be an acknowledgment of the lie, if it is not show to be the truth?
