shooting starting fires?
« on: June 26, 2012, 01:29:55 PM »
When my son was in Rocky Mountain Park, a ranger told him the fire there was started by sparks from bullets!  Actually it was an electric line.  At times the informal shooting areas are closed because of fire danger, but it [would really be cigarettes or such IMO.  Remember when rangers and similar were all outdoorsmen (and women)?

I did set a weed on fire once with the patch from a muzzle loader, but put it out right away.  That, and maybe someone shooting tracers is the only way I can see shooting starting a fire.

I tried starting tinder with:  a .36 cap and ball blank--blew the whole pile away,; and with a primed case with the bullet pulled, and the powder put in tinder, same result.  This stuff is for the movies.  I don't see any need to use the flint and frizzen any time in the near future, either.
just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they are not watching you

Sadly we had a fire at our rifle range last year.  Shooter missed the target and the berm, hit rocks in dry grass and lit up about 50 acres of dry grass.

The cause could not be argued since there were nearly a dozen witnesses who were taking turns shooting 10 round strings that morning.

It can sure enough happen , and especially so when things are so tender dry as they are at the moment.
Seems odd the ranger at Estes would of told anybody that that fire was started by someone shooting, the press reports have said it was a downed powerline, since moments after it happened..
In the 1920's "sheeple" was a term coined by the National Socialist Party in Germany to describe people that would not vote for Hitler. In the 1930's they held Hitler as the only one that would bring pride back to Germany and bring the budget and economy back.....

We have an open shooting range (no range master or anything) just outside the back gate of Beale AFB. Every year we wind up with a  fire there from shooters. Local forest fire fighters let it burn on the range area and the open field next to the range. (about 25 acers) Cause of the fire is people hitting rocks and them hitting other rocks causing sparks and the dry grass is on fire. This has been going on for a lot of years.
