Just bought a Taurus 617, 7 shot 357, 2" barrel in dull stainless.
Anyone have or tried one of these?
It has the rubber finger groove grips which fit my hand very nicely.
I intend to use it as a car/truck gun on trips along with some varmint/self defense open carry.
I have a small selection of factory ammo on hand to try, both 38 and 357, along with a few reloads.
They are as follows:
Win. (white box) 38 125gr JSP
Rem 146gr LRN
Win (white box) 38 P 125gr JHP
Rem 357 125gr JSP
Black Hills (blue box) 158gr LSW
Reloads: (Not sure where I got these at so I have reservations about shooting these at all !!!)
The 38 load seems OK but the two 357 loads look hot to me, above max!
38s w/4.5gr Blue Dot 158gr JHPs (My Lyman # 49 book lists a 6 gr starting load with a 158 JHP for this powder)
Is this load reduced to much for safety?
357s 11.5gr Blue Dot 140gr JSPs (My Hodgdon #26 book lists a 10.5gr max load with a 140 JHP for this powder)
357s Unique 9.5gr 125 JHPs (My Hodgdon #26 book lists a 8.4gr max load with a 125 JHP for this powder)
Might save the 357 loads for the rifle.
Any and all comments, both on the gun and the ammo are welcome.
