Bought another 25-06 today
« on: May 19, 2012, 09:17:02 PM »
Got my wish list from Guns America this morning.  In the H&R section they had a 25-06 Handi.  Rifle, rail, and 1" rings.  I called the gun shop that was listing it in Ft Worth Texas.  Asked if it had Ejector or Extractor.  The woman that answered did know what I meant but she said she would check.  The lady got it off the shelf and opened it.  I heard the ejector click over the phone.  She put a snap car in it closed it, then opened it again.  I heard a startled cry, then she said it threw the cap over her shoulder and out onto the floor.  I said I'll take it.  The guy that handles their internet sales was off today, but he will call me Monday Morning.

Once I have it in hand I will compare it to the one I already have.  Instead of a Tactical Scope, I want to put a range finding scope on this one.

The wife and I are going after Grizzly next weekend.  She will be carrying her 30-06 Remington Semi-auto, I'll be carrying the Handi 25-06.

Still want to take a Grizz with a .17.  Yea, I know I got a death wish.  I'm becoming an adrenaline junky in my old age.

Personally, I would want my wife (or anyone) with the 30-06 semi auto standing right beside me if I were to shoot at a big bear with a 25 caliber anything, let alone a single shot anything ;D :o :o Shooting at a huge bear with a .17 does sound like a death wish to me ::)

When I lived in Alaska, I heard the story of an old sourdough that told a boy he thought a .357 was a perfect handgun for grizzly country. He said, "It's nice and light, easy to carry and handle and you can shoot yourself real quick with it. It's also less gun for the bear to have to eat." I can't even imagine trying to take a bear with a .25, much less a .17.  :o  Be sure next of kin notifications are up to date. ;D  (If I were a gambler, I'd still bet on you, Sourdough!)

The only way a 25/06 is good for bear is because if you have a good one you can start shooting at half a mile, that should give you time to get off a couple of boxes........OR, maybe that is the deal...... do you like your wife?? :o ??? Or were you just going to P off the bear and then run ????? Are you faster than her ? ;) Is there a big insurance policy in your safe :D

I know of many people that have taken Brown/Grizzly Bears with .243s.  Frank Glasser admitted the only time he had trouble taking down a Grizzly was with a .220 Swift.  Frank Glasser said he would never use a .220 again.  The 25-06 has the velocity using a good Nosler bullet.  I have no doubt that it can bring one down with one shot.  I have all the confidence I can do it.  Would prefer a couple of Black Bear to practice on first, but I live in Grizzly Country.

Who knows might not even see a Bear at all next weekend.

Joe Nava, a retired State Biologist, and the NRA Training Counsler for Alaska, has taken many Bears, both Black and Grizzly with a .357.  Plus my hunting Partner has already taken a Grizzly with her 30-06.  Under stress I had much rather have a woman back me up than a man.  Women shoot straight when they have to.  As for a handgun I carry a S&W 460.
