Maxi and the 180 gr XTP - which cannelure do you use, and why ?

This bullet would probably chamber OK in the 357 Maxi if it was seated to the first cannelure. It would also decrease loading density and pressure, not good with H110.
Maybe H4227 or 2400 would work with max loads.
Anyway, if you use this bullet in this cartridge, what cannelure do you use, and why ?

Not loading maxi, but with .357 Magnum, I use the second cannelure to keep the OAL out of the rifling and make sure it will work in pistol cylinders.  The first cannelure is designed to load it in .38 special cases without taking up too much space inside the case.  If you are loading using a recipe, I'd say see what the COL was that was used during the load testing and try to match that.  Some powders like H110 are more sensitive to being Undercharged than overcharged.  Thus if you use the longer COL that means there's more airspace in the case and you risk a dangerous pressure spike.  I load mine using Hodgedon's bottom book load and I'm very close to their COL.

i load it to tha can closest to tha base. witch that shows tha other in tha wide open !!!!
but, it don't get no better responce with ana uther in my book..........
prolly uthers will say different, hey thats ok... i know what i like and i know my barrel is different thin anauthers out there

I started loading them with the deep seating cannalure, but now seat them out longer.  With the long seating, I started at the max load and worked up from there.  Initially, going from deep to long and the same powder charge, the velocity dropped a little bit as is expected.

While the cannelure nearest the base gives the same amount of space in the case as the 180gr SSP does, the node shape of the XTP won't let it chamber at that overall length. I have to seat it down to someplace between the cannelures.
Man, that 180 XTP really packs a punch, and it is very accurate !
