The Marlin (REMLIN) 1895 GBL 45/70
OK, fellas, been busy as hell at work and I am just now getting around to posting about my new GBL REMLIN.
All I can say is that the rumors are true.  Since Remingtons acquisition of Marlin things arent the same anymore.

1) Fit and Finish was just barely average.  The first thing I did was gut the rifle and took a jewelers file and removed all machining burrs in the receiver etc.  Took the bolt and lever and polished on a rag wheel with china white polishing compound and worked the lever where it makes contact with the bolt.  The Hammer and lever look like they were put on a belt sander and then thrown into a a bluing tank.  The pommel cap looks like it was done by a gov't contracted blind person.  I realize that my warrenty is now void but to be honest I never planned on sending it back to these knuckle heads that built the rifle cuz it is obvious they don't have a clue what they are doing.

Brand new out of the box, working the lever was rough but was what I expected.

Lack of attention to detail the Hammer and Lever look like they came from a bin and were just thrown on the rifle.

the pommel was crooked but all I did was loosen the screw and twisted it to fit the stock.

2)  The Rifling...I couldn't see the rifling very well when I picked it up from the gun shop very well so when I got it home and tore it down this is what a little light revealed.  It almost made me box the damn thing up and carry it back.  It looks like the tooling they used is either loose and wore out or they are running it way to fast.  I am going to eventually try fire lapping to smooth it out a little and see what happens.

It is a good thing that I have some training in gun repair, or this could have been a serious let down.  Truth is other than the rifiling being substandard, the rifle now performs very well.  My 42 grs of RE 7 push the 400 gr speers and 405 Lazer Cast to near same point of impact at around 1750 fps and the Accuracy is pretty decent and having not touched the trigger and lock work is a surprising crisp and clean 3lbs.  I have added an XS sight rail and just for giggles I have an Eotech on top until I can find a decent scope with some Warne Q/D mounts.  The fox butt cuff works well, the cheek pad raises the cheek weld up enough that sighting in with the Eotech and other glass is surprisingly comfortable.  Bottom line I had been wanting a thumper lever gun for a long time and I wasn't going to give up on this one.  After a little work I think it is going to provide me with many years of of service and is now a welcomed addition to my collection.  Headed to the range tomorrow!

The 1st 3 rounds were to get things lined out then after that, the rifle performed well with the XS sights.
