I have a few receivers and one barrel didn't fit any. I finally bought one that that barrel fit. Just cause it's a Sb2 doesn't mean all barrels will fit.  Think it works both ways. Might be a handi one to have around if you plan to buy many more barrels.
Good Luck

IF the back of your receiver is skeletonized, see pic in the FAQs or on the HR1871 website, then it is an SB2.  The fact none of your barrels will lockup properly on it means nothing regarding the type of the receiver.  The "problem" is because of manufacturing tolerances the receivers and barrels are all just a tad different and either one lucks out with a barrel purchase and it fits an existing receiver or as in your case it doesn't fit.  It does not mean there is anything wrong with the receiver or the barrel.

don't want to ruin a barrel. I'll just see about trading for another SB2

If they won't shut I think the factory "used" to fit them for a price. If it shuts and is loose I think they won't. You'd have to shim.

Why don't you just keep it.  You'll eventually have a barrel that won't fit anything except that receiver.  I had that happen to me.

My quandary, I personally, don't think I have enough Handi's but, I know I have more Handi's than I really need or should have.

That's why I keep three spare SB2s around.  Yesterday, I got a Versa-Pack  .410/.22 from boatboy.  The shotgun barrel was on the original frame.  I tried a spare SB2 because it was the only one without a hammer spur.  The .22 barrel jumped right on.  I shot it a few times and the rifle firing pin strike was a tad inside the rim, but it fired fine.  I reversed barrels and the .410 fit fine.  I shot a few 3 inch magnum loads and everything worked perfectly.

I agree with OldSchoolRanger, keep the frame.  One day you'll be glad you have it.  I had a barrel that wouldn't lock up on anything.  Just when I was about to work on it, I picked up another frame.  End of problem.

Often it is that barrels are 'too loose' and you have to shim. I bet there are a bunch of guys here that would be GLAD to have your 'problem'; and end up with a lock up like a bank vault. If I was a gross opportunist I would have been all over you to sell me that action  ;) ; you keep it for now. Dollars to donuts you will be glad you did!
