I picked up one last Friday. It was in disguise. It is a J. C. Higgens 103.13 which, after an internet search, turned out to be the Marlin 81. The bluing on this one is in excellent shape which is surprising considering the rest of the rifle. It has three little bulges in the barrel where some dummy managed to stick bullets. Probably a squib and they shot twice more before they figuered out something was wrong. The rifling really suffered from however they removed the bullets. I wanted a project for the windy months that are ahead and this one was CHEAP. I'll reline the barrel and when I'm finished you will have trouble telling it's an 81. It's funny. I read some reviews on the 81 and it's a well liked rifle and several bragged about how accurate they are but the are worth very little, even when in good condition.

I've got one. I've only had it out a couple times... doesn't feed reliably. I'm going to see if I can fix it. It's pretty big for a 22.

Mine doesn't have a rear sight, and has an old, side-mounted scope. It's pretty dark, unfortunately. I've had it apart and tried to clean as best I could but those optics are just cloudy. I'd like to fine one that isn't, that'll work with the orig mount.

Here is mine.  Not a great pic.. Factory peeps, no provision for a scope.  Great trigger, and very accurate.  Won quite a few turkeys with it when I was a kid at the local turkey shoots.
