New era Gun Works New York Nitro hamerless
« on: January 29, 2012, 07:34:20 AM »
I made an impulse buy last night on a worn SxS and dirty.  I was looking for a simple 12 gauge that I can hunt with that has some real character.  I talked to the store clerk/ owner about it and he said he pressure tests all barrels that come in.  Mentioned using a airhose and plugs to test...

i took it home for what I thought was a pretty fair price (money isn't my issue).  While cleaning it up and oiling the barrels I saw a pattern that reminded me of Damascus.  Then I really got to searching on the net and realized what I did.

This "isn't safe with modern day loads" because of the Damascus barrels and I have no urge to shoot black powder 12 gauges...

Do I take it back?  Should he accept it back?  Or did I screw up and pay a 'Stupid tax?"

Disregard.  They were nice enough to take it back and apologetic.  It got past him too.

Lesson learned.  I "probably' wont do that again. ::)

It was a really cool looking double with lots of 'Character' but I am not into the black powder loads...

Seriously?  Pressure tests barrels with a hose and plugs?  Tens of thousands of PSI with "plugs"?  BS flag on him!
That should have set off some flags for you there...
