Fore end screw specs

what are the specs on a typical handi fore end screw?

Im in need of one, and am thinking that picking something up at lowes or home depot might be a cheaper (and faster) option than ordering a $5 screw from brownells, then paying an additional $5.25 for shipping..

Newer handis use 1/4x20 flat head machine screws can get them at any hardware store for about a quarter. my wooden stocked ones use 1/2 inch long ones. The new style synthetic stocks I have use 3/4 inch ones.

One of the bbl's I need a screw for was manufactured in the late 1990's.. the other Im guessing was manufactured in the early 1980's.. are these "newer"?
 
Or do you think they will take something different?

Thanks for the info so far.. Im all about spending 25 cents as opposed to the $10.50 brownells option I was looking at this morning  :)

If it helps take the barrel off the action and take to hardwear store to find one that fits. Mine takes a 1/4-20.
