Barrel and Scope mix and match
« on: September 20, 2011, 05:55:24 PM »
I have three barrels and three scopes...  How would you match them up and why?

10" 22lr match
10" .44mag
14" 30-30

Simmons Prohunter 2x20
TC 1.5x
TC 2.5-7x

Assume I can shoot to the potential of each caliber.  I will use the .22lr for squirrel and the other two for whitetails; .44 in Ohio and 30-30 in Wisconsin.

Thats easy the 1.5 should go on 44(should be tougher than simmons) the simmons on the 22 and the variable on the longer range 30-30 barrel. Or if your huntin the thick stuff put the low power scopes on the centerfire calibers and use the higher power to snipe them squirrels out of the tree tops. Good Luck

10" 22lr match Simmons 2x20 i just think that they would not hold up oo the 30/30 or 44
10" .44mag    1.5x  but i like a 2x Leupold more  the longest shot that i would take would be 50yards

14" 30-30  2.5x7 like the xx for sight in

Simmons Prohunter 2x20
TC 1.5x
TC 2.5-7x

simmons on the 22lr
tc 1.5x on 44 mag
tc 2.5x - 7x on 30-30

Agreed...I wouldnt mount the simmons on the .44 or 30-30, it prolly wouldnt last long due to the recoil.
1.5 on the .44 Mag, and the 2.5 x 7 on the 30-30 since the higher power could come into play with the longer range capabilities of the 30-30.

That is how I was 'thinking' they should pair up.  I just wasn't sure if the Tc or the Simmons would hold up better to the recoil.

It will be;

Simmons 2x on the .22
TC 1.5x on the .44mag
TC 2.5-7x on the 30-30

Thank you for your help.  I wish I had three TC 2.5-7's   Then it wouldn't be so difficult.

TC scopes were specifically designed to be used on their barrels, including the magnums, so they are far less suseptable to recoil shock than the Simmons.   If the Simmons had been a long discontinued Gold Medal 2-7 that do hold up to the hardest hitters very well the choice would be different.   But as is the right choices were a no brainer.   Luck on your hunts.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus
