Pawn shop laminated 30-30. Real world value ??
« on: August 21, 2011, 06:59:27 PM »
Hello,

I have been eyeing a NEF 30-30 for a while and am liking it more and more. It is a green and gray laminated straight stock set and appears to be about 90% showing only a few minor dings. The scope is menial and would immediately be replaced with a more fitting 4X40. I have heard him say once that he would do a $289 out the door deal, but that does seem a bit high to me. I am thinking more like $250 out the door ? I do not have a rifle in this configuration but am sure that it would be accurate and trouble free. Any opinions and advice on this rifle would be welcomed and appreciated, thank you.

If this helps.....I'm buying a like new pallet wood 30-30 today for $200 OTD, about all they'll go for used around here.  Guess it all depends what you think the laminated furniture is worth.

How much does he have on the tag?  Generally I will offer about 25% less than the asking price and they usually will take it.  If they've had it a long time that will help you even more on the price.  If they just put it out, they will probably try and hold to the price.

That price would be about right around here.

I agree with 45-70Gov, if you like the gun, buy it !  $39 doesn't even buy a decent meal anymore. A good analogy was told to me once that I use often now. Think about all the people on the Titanic who wanted a dessert after dinner on that fateful night; however, they chose to save the money, not knowing tomorrow would never dawn....

I paid what I thought was a fair price for a Handi combo the other day here on GBO. I have no regrets, and can't wait to get my new toy.

Its a .30-.30 with a laminate stock. The barrel is worth $150; the receiver is worth $100; the stock is worth $75 to $100. I see it as a deal ! Buy it, shoot it, and enjoy it !

Great way to figure out what a rifle is worth.

Just think about what it would bring if you parted it out!

Go buy the rifle, if you like it!
My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

Parted out would bring $100 each minimum for barrel, receiver and stockset...$300-$350 range likely total....offer him $225 and tell him to keep the scope....
12g shortie w/chokes,Tamer .410,12g "Buck" slug gun w/20g extra barrel, 12g smooth bore tracker I, 45/410 w/22vp matched set, 7mm-08, .308 20",

my avatar pic is my 1960 Rambler I bought in 1972 for $175..6 banger 3-on-the-tree...drove it for 5 yrs  22mpg.. was "hot-rodding" (LOL) one night...tore out 1st/reverse gear. Drove it that way for 2 yrs(with no reverse and only 2nd and high)  Had to really plan ahead when parking.

If that's the case, perhaps I should by that new .45 Colt BC and part it out...  What's a BC stock set worth these days?

You might want to reconsider that, please read the classified sticky on rules violations.
