45/410 Is it really worth it?
« on: July 27, 2011, 11:05:32 PM »
I would imagine it would be hard for it to be accurate. After reading what many have had to say it makes me feel divided. In theory it would seem like a real unique truck gun or camp gun. On the other hand it sounds like its almost useless as you wouldn't hit what you were aiming at anyway. Just wondering if any of you can tell of your first hand experience with this gun. Thanks for your help.

That's a personal thing... I mean its accurate enough for some not nearly for others...
I have had a number of them in Contenders and for my $$ NO they are NOT worth it.

In a word, yes. They are fine for what they are. Don't try to make them a varmint rifle and don't try any long passing shots a high geese with them. As in anything else, keep within the limitations of the gun/bullet and they work fine....<><....:)

I have a standard 22" .410.  With just the bead front sight, it shoots slugs as close as I can hold it.  I'm sure we'll both do better when I put a shotgun scope on it.  I'm happy with that and never saw the need for a .45/.410.

How come I always got the wrong cartridge in it for the game that shows up?

Different strokes for different folks.  As has been said before, if you are looking for precision the 45/410 probably isn't the Handi for you; however, if you want a lot of utility in one firearm, it really fills the bill.
In this photograph my 45/410 is the bottom Handi (my 308 Survivor is on top).

As you can see I have equiped it with a front sight (by a good gunsmith) and dispensed with the bead.  The rear sight is an XS Ghost Ring sight (http://xssights.com/index.php?nID=sights&cID=Sights&pID=sights&sID=rifle) which mounts to the rail.

This gives a pretty good sight picture whether shooting rabbits with the 410 or whitetails with the 45.

I got my 45/410 at a good price and decided to make a project gun out of it.  Works well and stores away nicely.  The Survivor stock also allows me to pack away some goodies in case I end up spending an impromptu night in the bush...

45 Basic brass has a .505" case head, same as 45-70 compared to .480" for the 45 Colt, do a search for 450 Mongo, lots of discussions(literally hundreds) on using longer brass for the 45-410.

thanks quick.  I don't have a clue about 45s.  I just assumed they were all the same.
