When dealing with the pawn shop,
they probably paid 50 to 75.00 for the 22 rifle. More likely less than the $50.
Having watched my old roomate deal with pawn shops for years in Norfolk, and he was good.
First thig is talk to the manager, not a sales clerk. They will stick full retail on items. So that 175 is probably 95 to 100% condition in the Blue book.
second is walk in with Cash. Have it in your hand and lay it on the counter.
Ask to see the rifle.
offer about 125 for the gun and have about 140 in your hand. Helps to make it easy for the them and have three bills ($100 Bill and 2 -20's) not 7- 20's.
They will say no and the hangle is on.
come up to 130 or go all in with the 140 out the door.
If and, more likely when he says no. He will say maybe we can help you with something else, Say no, I will look else where for Remington 22. Gather up the $ from the counter, hold it in your hand and walk to the door. He will stop you with a number, there is no way he wants that C note to walk out his door.
The other guys at the counter will let you walk, you need a manager or better, the owner for this to work.
Also works with jewelery especally after Christmas and vallentines day.
