If you don't want to allow it... well thats your call.. ;D

...as long as the next challenge is the same, it makes no never mind to me.......I'm easy.  I was just tryin' to see who the folks were here that like to get on their bike ride  for more than a few hundred miles at a time. Funny how so many folk think of a 800 mile ride as a major trip, whereas some consider it just a good day's ride.......but then it ain't the miles so much as the time spent in the saddle. Puttin 500 miles on when riding the superslab can be done before lunch, whereas if one is ridin' the BRP, it could take two days.

................and yes Cheese, AFAIC, it can be an archived photo. I'll refrain from postin' any more pics till we move on to a different challenge, as most of the pics I have already posted on this thread are more than 1000 miles from my home anyway.

Yeah most of mine are probably within that 1000 mile range..Utah,Illinois,Arkansas, Indiana ,Oklahoma, Texas,Minnesota, Wisconsin, ect..can usually only get a week at a time to go anywhere, and to go and explore and get back again limits the straight line distance some.

Generally, when me and the O.L. take a bike trip, we figure on averaging 450 miles a day. That means having just a week off gives us a conservative range of approximately 3000 miles. That does not mean we ride 450 miles everyday. Some days we ride 800 or more and then take a day or two where we may only ride 200(or less) and take the time to enjoy the sights and picture ops(one reason we have so damn many bike pics). We prefer riding as soon as the sun is up completely, avoid urban areas during rush hour and generally do not ride after dark(Unless we have to be home before the next day). This is not hard to do with a comfortable bike, with different riding positions available for both the rider and passenger, and stopping often enough to keep the blood flow in yer arse and to keep hydrated. Many times we end up taking our trips alone, because we cannot find folk that want to ride. Most folk ride with the  "20 mile" rule, which means they need to stop every twenty miles at a different bar and have  drink. Many folk don't want to ride in the rain and will back out at the last minute because of this. I feel that riding in the rain is just payin' your dues so you can ride when it's nice. Some of our most enjoyable trips were spent wearing our rains suits half the time we were in the saddle. To many, a half a tank of gas is a major "day" ride, and think they need to go home and wash their bike again. Not that there is anything wrong with that....it just ain't our way. That was the reasoning behind my last picture challenge....to see iffin there were other folks here on GBO, that have the same riding style as we do.

Sounds like you ride like we ride..normally tank to tank on a days journey..I don't stop at bars at all during the day, when the day is done maybe. Lots of 750-800 mile days if we need to get somewhere..usually 400-500 a day is good and we don't pay much attention to rain anymore, just an extra quick stop to put on gear and were off again...

800 miles is a major trip for me and my friends, nothing that "funny" about it. Not to me anyways. I guess not everyone is like you. You mean funny "ha ha" or funny as in "strange".

Here's my MZ500 single in Panamint Valley. Death Valley is on the other side of those mountains. Pretty sure it's a thousand miles from Wisconsin. Only time I ever had a bike 'diesel' on me was when I climbed one of those passes and turned her off... guess she was a little hot. Didn't hurt her tho.

Cheese

Didn't mean it as funny, "ha-ha" or funny as in strange. Meant it as different. You're right, not everyone is like me and not everyone rides like I do. That is exactly what I was alluding to. You and your friends consider 800 miles on a bike a major trip, good for you.  At least you're out riding. I'm not putting you and your friends down for it, and I apologize if that's what you thought I was doing,  just saying your definition of a major trip is different than mine.  To us, a major trip is one of a week or more and taking us 1000's of miles from home.....one way. Some don't have the time for major bike trips, or the right bike or even the desire. No big deal, that's just how things are. Many times, after getting back from what we consider a major trip, I've been on the bike so long, I've almost forgotten how to drive my work truck. The trip we took to Hannibal in the middle of August showed about 1500 miles on the trip meter when we got home. To us it was just another weekend ride. To some that came to meet up and traveled less, it was the longest trip they had ever done on a bike. Didn't matter, we rode beside them and partied with them just the same. They were good folk, just have a different riding style than we do.  Again. it ain't always the miles, but the time spent in the saddle. One of the hardest things I have found with riding a bike, is finding folk to ride with that have the same riding style as you. Nuttin' frustrates my wife like having to stop every 30 miles so someone we're riding with can have a cappuccino.....or a beer....or a cigarette. Especially when we have to blow by something of interest because we wasted so much time lookin' for a Starbucks. ::) This is not funny either, just aggravating. It's kinda like deer huntin'. Iffin I remember correctly, you hunt similar to me.....still hunting large tracts of public land. This opposed to the big name hunter you see on the outdoor channel. You know, the one who eats a big breakfast prepared for him at the lodge, then rides a 4-wheeler out to a blind the outfitter has set up, then after watching the bait pile for two hours for a shooter to come in, hugs his trophy and exclaims what a tough hunt it has been. Both ways are typical, neither is wrong, but both are different.

Well OK. Here's an idea. (I am still lookin for messy workshop pics, but I'll give up on that for now...)

How about yer bike with a favorite pet in the pic? Like your German Sheperd or coiffed Poodle, Pug, or Parrot or Llama or Goldfish or the one-eyed stray tomcat you lured into the garage by tossing pieces of bologna sandwich to? Not that I've ever done that... Ugly stupid damn thing is upside down on my lap as I type this. LOL

doesnt have to be dead, just some autumn color.  some yellow or red leaves.  i would think a fellow should be seeing that if he looks for it.

......taken yesterday along the Wisconsin River on Route 107. Rainy day so colors are washed out, but the trees are just startin' to turn in the background and there are leaves that have all ready fallen on the ground around Ol' Paint.

They just resurfaced most of 107 between Merrill and Tomahawk a coupla years ago, but unfortunately it's startin' to break up again. Here's a coupla pics taken on Saturday with the sun out. River was higher than I'd ever seen it before. The  Friday picture taken at the boat landing at Camp New Wood shows the landing is under water.

He He He ... It wasn't "alive" so it must be "dead" right??  A dead animal?? Rode up to Estes Park and then down the entire length of the Peak to Peak highway nothing bigger than a chipmonk. Almost home I did see a porqupine on the side of the road I thought was pretty cool...WAY too much traffic to stop for a picture though.
  Its your challenge...and I'm S T R E C H I N G things quite a bit so... its your call...I think leave your challenge up, see what we get...you decide..

I don't ride with 6 or more bikes...

Really? Why is that? Is because you've never had the opportunity to, is it because you don't know of 6 other riders that ride well enough to ride with you, or is it because you don't have enough confidence with your own riding abilities to ride with a larger group? Whatever the reason, it's your choice.....not a big deal, everyone has their own riding preferences.

When it comes right down to it, I and my wife prefer to ride alone or with a smaller group of 2 or 3 other bikes, just because of the hassles that go along with larger groups. That said, there ain't nuttin' like roaring thru a small town in a pack turnin' heads. Sometimes ridin' in a larger group can be a lot of fun, and sometime as in the case with benefit/charity  rides it cannot be avoided.....i.e., the MDA ride last week in Tomahawk.  Sometimes there is just safety in numbers, as touring across the country. Several times in a 4000 mile run we've ridden with 8 or ten bikes.....there's always plenty of help when something goes wrong.

Sometimes when you get a group of your close biker friends together, they just number more than two......

c'mon guys......6 or more bikes ain't much.

I used to ride in big groups a lot..PGR rides, charity runs, poker runs, whatever..Too many close calls from folks that ought to stay in their cars cause they have no clue how to ride..I dont do it anymore..
I have gotten very picky as to who I'll ride with, way too many folks with a bike and no skills out there, so I pick and choose pretty close who I'll ride with.
And, yes , I'm pretty confident in my ability ro ride, Been an MSF instructor for years now.So I'm always working on bettering others riding skills as well as my own.
My wife and I also prefer to ride alone or just with a small 2-4 group of riders..for the long distance stuff we prefer to ride alone most of the time, we can ride at our pace, and time ,so it just works out better. Also 12-15 hour days dont bother us much, the folks we ride with ...not so much.
