I was looking at these and found a couple for under $400 I didn't think that was bad for a nice bolt action rifle but I don't know if it is nice or not does anyone have any experiance with these? oh and I am looking for one in .243

Save a little longer and find a Rem. 700 SPS it will hold its value and is just better all round my .02.

born-to-hunt I just looked a the US Wholesale Sports web site and they have the 700 SPS for 549.99 there has to be better deals then that on the US side of the border. There has to be some one down there that knows of a deal.

I have seen a couple 770s for just under $300 and would like a nice scope would it be worth it to get a 700 for a couple hundred bucks more?

I know two guys with the 770's one can not say bad things about it the other sold his and could not say anything good about it.
I shot both. Bother were in 30-06 and out to 100 yards they work fine.
out to 200 yards i was able to shoot gongs. I think my one friend wanted to have a 1000 yard rifle.
He also moaned about the Weatherby Vanguard he had in 308.
He now has a pair of M700's.
I sold him one of the 700's it is a BDL in 30-06 i found in a shop for about 350 -400 with a scope mounted on it.
If you look in the used racks you may find a used remington, ruger, or vanguard. for the same $3-400.
I like the used racks- I find it easier to buy a rifle that is pre dented and scratched and not curse as you dent, ding or scratch a new rifle.

well I don't need a 1000 yard rifle most I will probably shoot is 400yds and the smallest target will probably be paper or groundhogs

Like I said,
only shot the 30-06 versions and then only to 200 yards.
Seems like a good rifle.

I haven't shot the 770 but have shot a 710... pretty much the same rifle.. it shot ok. But for the same money I would pick up a Mossberg ATR, Stevens, Marlin, or an H&R and get extra barrels.
Dido on the 700 WAY worth the extra $$

My brother has a model 710 which is a 770 with a differant stock. I have shot it quite a few times and it is a great rifle for the money you will spend. He has had his for about 5 yrs now and there have been no parts break of any kind. It shoots just over an inch at 100 yds with rem core-lokts. its a 30-06 by the way. If this is a first rifle you wont be sorry and i never buy for resale thats just a silly reason to spend more money. Why buy the gun if your just gonna resell it? BTW the 700 SPS doesnt cost much more and the package scopes are junk.

I have not gotton one yet I am still deciding on getting a muzzleloader first or a rifle don't worry i will tell you when I get one

Do you have an Academy Sports where you live? They have the Rem 700 ADL syn stocks for $350 new.

Remington 700 awesome gun. I have one in 17 fireball its the 700 sps varmint. I also have a 243 in 770. It shoots awesome with the 58 gr v max and the 75 gr v-max. However...... the 770 is not in any way a 700. My nephew just got a savage edge in 223 new in the box for under 300. If I had to choose I would get the edge over the 770. Edge is a great shooter right out of the box and has a better bolt.

that edge sounds pretty nice might have to check that out

I'm a big Rem. fan, However, I would not own a 770 or 710. Just my opinion, but there are much better out there. If I was in the market for a new economical rifle, I would be looking @ the Marlin Bolt guns.

i'm thinking about saving up for a .308 rem 700 cause if I get one that costs a little more I want to be able to hunt a lot of different stuff with it and I think a .308 could hunt anything from groundhog to elk with it possibly in the future and a .308 is just a good fun round

and the fact that the rem 700 in .308 is what S.W.A.T. and the Military uses will be cool
