Yet again I think we owe the Graybeard a BIG thank you for having this gathering place for us!

Works for me Peter, and Larry.  Only thing is Pete, its ejector
I know your feelings on ejectors are not nice, let me know for sure and it'll be on its way.  Resend your address too.  Mine changed when and if Larry needs it I'll send it.  Thanks Larry for the kind offer.

Pete let me send that barrel to you first and make sure youdef want it. Hope it fits...

Pete, if you want extractor instead of ejector, Jerry can send me the 357 Max ejector and I'll send you a 357 Max, extractor.  Can we get anymore convoluted than this? :P  DP

Larry gets the gold star as the stand up, generous guy that he is.Personally, I wouldn't send it back to the smith, sans maybe for him to see his foul up and see if he would be willing to make good on it. Jerry and dpe.....lets do it.  It should be a world record.  Here we go.....I send the shortie to Larry. Larry reams the shortie and sends it to Jerry.  Jerry sends the ejector to dpe and dpe sends the extractor to me.  Now, who else can we get in the act?  Anyone want to dance?  Tim, you wanna do anything while we're here??  I'm gonna have to bookmark this post so I know what's going on ;D

Yer all appreciated.

Thanks, Tim.  This has got to be the nuttiest tail chase I've ever seen here :o ::) :o  Thanks, all of you.

I only need one other thing, a properly sized piece of 35 Remington brass, or a piece of factory brass with the bullet pulled.  Larry

This is a fairly long straight walled case, so if the reamer pilot isn't quite tight enough in the bore, the front of the reamer can slop around some and make the front of the chamber slightly out of round or even a little larger than the back or middle of the chamber.  Then fired brass will have to be compressed to get it out of the chamber.  Only fix would be to make the walls straight again, but then you will have swelled brass at the base.  I will try not to hose up the 35 Remington chamber.  Larry

Here's an update on the mad shuffle.  I just mailed the shortie maxi to Larry (trotterlg).  Larry's reaming it to .35 Rem and sending it to JerryKo.  Jerry is sending an ejector maxi to dpe.ahoy.  DP is sending an extractor maxi to Dick Williams Gun shop.  They are cutting it to 16.5 inches, re-crowning it, and sending it to me.  The results..... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D....all the way around.

Thanks Guys,

Pete

I got the shorty barrel today.  I think the problem with the chamber is that when it was lengthened for the Max that the GS pulled the reamer out of the barrel while it was still turning.  Looks like the reamer started failing around then the pilot came out of the bore and gouged up the back part of the chamber, I would do a chamber cast but I don't think I could get the cast out with as many score marks that are in that chamber.  I would definately say it could not be salvaged as a .357 anything barrel.  I think that the brass from Quick will arrive tomorrow so I will do the chamber when I get it.  I did recut the crown to a nice 11 Degree target crown and cleaned upthe screw holes, think after I am done with the chamber I will sand blast it and put a nice parkerized finish on it.  Larry

You are a good man Larry. And probably 10x the gunsmith that hack was. I can't believe that someone would ship a barrel out with that kind of damage.

Thanks Larry.  To say the least, I'm a little more than disillusioned with Lyle.  From what you're telling me he knew the damage when he sent it back.  That doesn't make me smile at all.  Thank you again.

Never could be sure when it happened, but this kind of damage is what can happen if you are using a floating reamer holder and the pilot comes out of the throat when the barrel is truning, because the holder does not keep it straight, the end is free to do anything it wants, which is usually bad.  Larry

I don't know what to say Larry.  You had me at a re-chamber and now a recrown and finish.  I simply cannot wait.   ;D

DP, your barrel is in the mail.  Its bundled up tight.  Enjoy. Be sure to let us know how it works out.

Pete, I can't thank you enough for agreeing to all this.  I hope you end up with your lap gun. And it does all you hope.

Thanks GBO!

I have not read all of this thread so some one may have covered this, but a chip that was not cleared a flute of the reamer will ring a chamber and cause a sticking case . My 2 cents. 26-t
