.35 Rem reamer, when JB bore paste just isn't enough.

I assume that gunsmith trashed his $200 Max reamer when he did that work.

Believe it or not I use a 3.2 Mega Pix Canon PowerShot A410, which is about a $90.00 camera.  My bet is the reamer wasn't hurt at all, If I ever ship a barrel with a cahmber like that one, I give permission to who ever receives it to stop buy and kick my butt.  Things will work out well on this one, it is a fun project with lots of really nice people involved.  Larry

The thing that really pi$$e$ me off is that he sent it back to me without a word.  When I told him about the sticking cases he said "Send it back an I'll polish it up".  Yeah, sure.

I got the brass from Tim today, I will cut the chamber after dinner.  Last night I plugged the rear sight holes that were in the barrel and got them all ground down.  I will probably have it done tomorrow and get it on it's way.  Larry

Chamber is cut, the breach was out of square about .0025 inches, so I took off .003 and cleaned up and made it perfectly square.  I gave the new brass from Quick .005 headspace, new brass is usually a tiny bit short, so this should work out just perect I think.  I still have to modify the ejector to drop down for the rimless cartridge and for the larger diameter cartridge head, I think I will be done tomorrow and get it in the mail, could see it on Friday.  Larry

I just found an interesting fact, other than that Tims chamber is .004 short ;).   On a rimless extractor barrel you cannot use the flat leaf spring they use in the rimmed cartridge extractor barrels because the flat spring doesn't have any let off point, so the extractor will not drop down to fall out of the rim cut.  I will just drill and tap a hole for the normal coil spring type of lifter button and life will be good.  Larry

A rimless extractor barrel has a hole drilled and tapped for the lifter button and spring, the rimmed cartridges are not, they have a flat leaf spring in the channel the extractor runs in.  So I have to put a button type lifter in this barrel because I am going from rimmed to rimless.  Larry

They have a hole drilled, but I've never noticed any threads in the hole, what purpose would they serve if it was threaded?

On the extractor rimless barrels they ahve the lifter button and a spring under a screw that holds it all in.  Guess on the rimmed barrels they either have an empty hole or no hole at all like this one.  Here are the two chambers, which do you want?  Larry

I just checked a 280 barrel, there are no threads in the lifter button hole, there's also no screw in the underlug at all.  ??? The only underlug that I've ever seen a screw in was the 1st generation extractors.

I think I'd choose the nice looking one!!  ;D

I guess I will be first generation than, it will work out fine I think, it extracts fine but I cannot pull the cartridge over the extractor, so I need the spring to let off some when it is out.  I remeasured the headspace I have, it is really only .003 so I guess your chamber isn't as short as I thought it was. ;)  Larry

Picked up some factory 150 grain ammo since I could'nt find brass locally.  $25 a box.  Now I remember why I handload.  Had the dies from my Dad's things.  Have plenty of. 358 projectiles.   Going to scope it with a 1.5x5 pro diamond scope that is currently on my 50cal muzzle loader.  I really like that scope and it should work great on a Shorty.  Excellent field of view at all powers.

Can't wait!

Wow, that picture Larry posted is one big cluster blunder.
Glad to see the Handi fellas here are helping to turn an unfortunate experience into a positive one.

I may just have to dig up that old "Golden Handi Award" poster for Larry...

Great bunch of folks here! Good on all of ya!
