Here are some real big bowls I turned on my lathe.  !st one is 30" in diameter.  2nd is 23" and 3rd is 17".

  That is huge! Nice though. I am guessing you attached the block to the wheel of a car to turn?

Lonny,
I used an outboard attachment on my Delta Top Turn lathe.  It allows me to turn items up to 33" diameter.  When I first put the roughed out block on my lathe and turned it on, it was so unbalanced that my 400 pound lathe jumped across the floor.  I had to screw on pieces of steel on the back (like tire weights) to balance it out.  Then I turned one side and flipped it and rebalanced it and turned the other side.  The more I turned, the better it got.

 Hmmm I have not seen one used like that. I am not allowed to be around woodshops very often. I drool to much. All them cool tools. Then I start remembering almost cutting my fingers off in woodshop in school. LOL all better now.

 I have been loafing down the road at a custom woodshop of my neighbors. I will try to get a few picts of their awesome creations. They like making tables and bars and chairs, lamps and so on. They make some of the most beautiful furniure. Their bars and tables they like to strip the bark and use the natural shapes.
