I think you are right about the youth model/compact forend. I bought this barrel from a member and it was already drilled &
tapped, shoots slugs quite well but is definitely narrower than normal, and looks lost in a regular forend. I think the tamer barrel is closer to
normal proportions. The greyblack lam is an attractive stock and I would like one in a thumbhole but being a lefty I'm left out. According
to Tims latest posts H&R has a new wood facility and is making their own stocks now. Good luck on the project and post some pics
