I weigh about 320 pounds and about 321 pounds when I;m holding my beer at the fireside. I wold like to build a folding campers chair w/ hardwood. I can find no plans for one. Anyone help me out, this would e for bank fishing, beach fishing and just gerneral sitting at the camp fire. Needs ot be a strong design. Thaks, some really beautiful projects here.

That's a lot of weight for a wooden folding chair. I know

I'm a big guy as well and couldn't find anything that would hold enough weight so I use one similar to this:

Here are pics of a heavy duty chair I made. It is all cut from 2X Pine material. It equals two pieces, One slides into the other to make a chair or slides into the other in a different way to store flat. See if the pictures make any sense. I think this chair will hold the weight easily. It does sit a little low to the ground but that keeps the center of gravity low also. It is a very comfortable camp chair.

zulu exactly ehat i am looking for. I sure wished you had the plans for that sucker. I have little patches in my woods that i hunt and hve stash tubes w/ tea, water, medical supplies stuff. I would liek to make a couple of those chairs, nicer then stiitng on the ground, plus if i sealed them they could take the weather out there.

Bucker,
Just make them out of treated wood. You won't even have to seal it. If you store it a little off the ground it will last 20 years.
The 4 main braces have a curve in them. I think I cut them out of a 2 X 6. All the seat and back strips I cut out of a 2 X 6 also. They are 1 1/2" wide and 1" thick. I beveled the edges to keep splinters out of my back side.
The area where the seat slides through the back is the only place I think you have to beef up. It gets all the torque when you sit down.

The support rails are 34 1/2" long and the seat width is 20". The seat rails and the back rails have a different curve so they will slide into each other.

I want to thak you for the letter and information supplied, it was very nice of you It is perfect and i will use it for my projects. I can tell you boys this site is even with my other favorite for the knowledge, help and information given freely to people who need it. I am just starting into the woodwroking and look forward to these chairs as gifts to my camping friends, but also stashing them in my hidey holes/brush blinds on the mountains. Thanks again!

These drawings are great. When I made mine, I had seen a chair someone else had made and I just had to figure it out. It was a little trial and error before I got it right. Thanks for posting that site.

Are you interested in a folding table to go along with your chair? I made one that folds flat. It is pretty neat. I shamelessly copied it from someone else too.

You can also make one in a "loveseat" design....make like the chair version only wide enough for 2 people to sit on...

Zulu, not yet. i am building 2 chicken tractors for kids that are joining 4H this and want to show poultry. I am a big time 4H beleiver. I will hopefully build that chair before fair time as I want it for that, as well as camp fires this spring and summer. Darn kids come first you know!! LOL I stil got to build a new pen yet for my daughter for her fancy chicken projects. Birds live in nicer cleaner digs than I do. She will clean the pens spotless, which include a donkey and 2 calves this year about 25 chicken projects but try finding her to clean her room! I have not forgotten my chair! after all this work I will need it!
