I haven't seen any authentic cuffs, but I'm gonna say that they were laced together.  I can't think of any other way that would be authentic to the era.  Measure the wrist/arm, cut them a little bit big, punch some holes in them and lace them up.

The olny cuffs I have seen wher in tombstone and the pair that tom selick whor in the movie monte walsh.toms were a strap and buckle but I don't think that was an vintage thing, the pair that I seen in toumstone wher a button type but that isentin the right time line, I think 1910-12. Mabey the laced cuff is what I am lookin for

Down here they're referred to as "brush cuffs".  When you ride through brushy country it protects the forearm from brush as you're pushing it out of the way of your face.  I'm thinking anything that could snag on mesquite limbs wouldn't be a good thing.  That would pretty much eliminate a strap/buckle set up.  A rolled leather button could work.

you are completly right rancher they whould snag every thing! however what i was told the perpose of the cuffs was to keep the cowboy that was horse back from geting rope burn in the event he missed the dally, also they where handy when the clafs hoves wher sharp and the flanker lost the heal.  realy i whould not cault dead with them on tring to work cattle they whould just be in the way

That could be right, I'm not going to dispute what others have said.  Good luck with your project!  Post up some pics when you get them done!
