Helped Santa with my Christmas List
« on: December 05, 2009, 12:29:47 PM »

Well...I had too...Didn't start out to even buy anything gun related..but you all know how that goes :D

I picked up a walnut stocked 336 30-30 Marlin last month before deer season here..put a fairly nice Holo sight on it..and got it all sighted in with some Federal Fusion ammo..and then didn't get a shot at one.. >:(

Anyway..went out today to find some matching lights for my white Christmas tree..and on a whim stopped in my favorite gun store and started talking to the owner..and got a good enough price on one of the new stainless 45-70's I had to go with it..and will be trading next Tuesday...He had a older M-80 straight 4 power Leupold scope & rings that looked brand new sitting up on the shelf he's let me have for a reasonable price..so I figured what the heck...you snooze..you loose with these kind of deals...and said to add it to it..Ask him about some Nosler 300 grain Partitions..and his avalability..and he said he could get some..so I headed out of the store..looked at his bullet supply and lo&behold he had 1 opened box sitting all by it's lonesome on the shelf..and got it for $20..I'm pretty happy right now..in a great mood humming Christmas carols...and the lovely wife knows somethings up... ;)

BTW..went to 3 stores before finding the lights I needed..and now I get to finish the Christmas tree...so...." It's beginning to look a-lot like Christmas...Every where I go....."

That same bug almost bit me today. I went to the local hardware/gun store and while I was there I just thought I'd look around a bit. Anyway there was a nice used double barrel 12 gauge coachgun there for $249. If it wasn't for Christmas being right around the corner and my money holiday tight, it would have come home with me.
Congrats on your find and sorry about having to do the lights.

Is ok...I kinda enjoy doing the Christmas tree up every year..I know what you mean about the money being tight..Still paying a ton of medical bills from the wifes illness and surgeries..and still paying on having to remodel the home from getting floodied out 3 times in the past year.. :-[

The Marlin was a ok rifle..but wasn't what I really wanted...so I'm not the least bit upset on having to trade it in....and should come out on it pretty good..The scope & bullets will get wraped up and go under tree for me to open from Santa.. ;)

Looks like the Barnes are going to be the ones to beat ehh Tim... ;D

Question on these..Is everything on them stainless..including the lug..? Do you think these frames were going to be the ones the non produced magnums were slated to go on?

Underlug appears to be stainless, but the hammer, trigger and barrel release are blued. The Handi-mags would have been a completely new frame which they never made any.

Thanks Tim:

How about the pivot pin...? Is it blued or stainless..?
