stock questions ?
« on: July 05, 2009, 05:01:43 AM »
Hello,  I have a old Contender with the adjustable hammer and what I'm told it is the original version not the G2. Several years ago I bought a stock and forearm that was listed as a Contender stock, I would refer to it as "plastic" and when tapped sounds hollow. It has an "almost oval" cover on the grip and a rubber recoil pad with the TC logo and a warning about barrels less than 16". I would rather have a wood stock and know were to get one. I have looked in the "Contender" forum and  see people asking/posting for Composite, laminate or Packmire stocks.   What do I have and how do you tell if it's for a Contender or a G2 ?

Thanks
Steve H.

The original version and the G2 have one major obvious difference:  the G2 has the same ridges on the sides that an Encore has.  It looks like a smaller Encore.  The original Contender has flat sides and most have some engraving (rolled) of one of a couple scenes that TC used.  The custom shop offered smooth sided original Contenders so you could have your own engraving done.

You can find just about any kind of stock you want for your Contender.  Good luck.

Composite = plastic, laminate = layers of (usually) contrasting wood, Pachmayr = a brand name maker of of stocks/grips, best way I can describe the ones I've seen for the Contender is heavy rubber.

Sounds to me like you've got a composite stock.  I don't know how to tell if it is for an original Contender or a G2, sorry.

One way of telling would be to see if it fits on your frame.  Since it seems you have an original frame if it fits it is not a G2 stock.  Grip angle is quite different.  If it doesn't fit, and you are sure it is for a Contender and not an Encore, then you may have a G2 stock.
