I dont know if any of you have ever canvased your areas for votes. I have volunteered on a few political campaigns. We would go door to door and the comments you get are quite entertaining. But in my opinion a large amount of the voters are clueless as to who is who. All they rely on is the media and who tells them to vote for who. If you want a third party in the loop you better start now and open your wallets wide and start the war fund to buy media coverage, because with out it you are pissing in the wind. Sorry to say the large numbers of people are mesmerized by the boob tube , so you have to have something on tv and radio to brain wash them your way. And you can believe that alot of people vote on ethnic basis alone with out doing their homework, you can see that with what Stern did in Harlem this last circus. Sorry I usually dont contribute but activism is what really pays. As it stands for a third party now you have a better chance making ice cream in hell unless the talkers become activists. You have to get into the voter base minds and stick there. Boon

If the Republican party ever puts forward candidates who have a record of fiscal conservatism that is untainted by cheating on their wives, proposing amnesty for illegal aliens, taking money from the fats cats or proposing anti-gun legislation; then I may vote for those candidates. Until that time the Republican party can go jump off a cliff.

one of the 2 parties that WILL win

wants your guns more than the other

ther is nothing YOU can do to make a 3rd party win

but i voting that way makes you FEEL good do it.....i am selfish in many ways too

i hope mccain the liberal was a wake up call to the republicans
and in that respect YOU 3rd party voters did a good thing
i just hope some one good will run and we will have you with us in 2012 and 2010

I must be missing out on the math. Roughly speaking, I think McCain got 60 million votes, Obama 69 million, and all of the various 3rd parties scraped together maybe a million and a half, the largest single 3rd party tally being less than a million.

I know these are popular votes, not the deciding electoral votes, which was far more of a lopsided victory for Obama. Actually, I would think that the Greens and Socialists probably siphoned off some of the Obama vote.

How do you figure that 3rd party voters put Obama in office? It doesn't add up to me. I don't think they had much effect at all.

Yeah, right is right and wrong is wrong. Nice slogan. I wish it were all that simple but right and wrong don't mean anywhere near the same to everyone. There are dozens if not hundreds of major issues that (I think) have a right side and a wrong side. There isn't now or has there ever been a candidate that I agree with everything about - so they're all gonna be right on some issues and wrong on others - in my view. So it's not always an absolute either/or deal for me when I vote.
Sadly, I wonder how many nowadays even know what the Bill of Rights or the Constitution is. I think too many voters care more about Michael Jackson history than American History.

I am as disappointed with the Republicans as you are, maybe more. I'm not defending them. But one is a sewer and the other is a cesspool big as the ocean. There is a measurable difference in quantity. That's just reality.

What I am saying is that whether we like it or not, there are many ways that many people interpret these documents and they vote. We recently got a ruling on the 2nd Amendment after two centuries and it is still being screwed with. "Right to bear arms" to one is unconditional, to another with "some" "common sense" regulations, to another applies only to a "militia", and to some doesn't mean any right to guns - and everything in between. To some "Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" is using drugs. Some people think the Constitution guarantees a woman's right to abortion of convenience.
You are very conservative religiously and politically. I am pretty close to you but do not agree with everything you believe, nor you in everything I believe. Your absolute right or wrong is going to differ from mine on certain issues. There are people whom I agree with on most issues but am 100% in disagreement on others. Some of these issues (to me anyway) are uncompromisable, others I accept. I can't find that universal line of right and wrong on every issue unless I find someone exactly the same as me.

Somehow, if most of what we believe in and cherish is to survive, we need a majority and that is going to come with some compromise and strong, true leadership.
Sadly - morals, values, faith and government have all become disconnected. Sadly, we don't even have much of an objective media any more.

I don't think I have ever ragged on anyone's right or sanity about voting 3rd party. I respect their right and will defend it. I just believe that we are further away from a place that "most" conservatives would agree is what this country should be all about then we need to be - and it's going to be that much harder to get straightened out, the more radical the "center" or majority is. One thing we had better do is quit calling each other names and pushing each other's noses into the poop and focus on the real problems. Focus on tomorrow, not last year's disaster.

Many, if not most, "conservatives" are not really conservative. They have bought into a plethora of Mickey Mouse stuff that the Republican party used to hijack the party away from real conservatism. Beginning in 1980 the Republican party decided that fiscal conservatism did not matter. They decided on a slick plan of feel good stuff that they foisted off on us Republicans as "conservatism." For years the Republican party won on a their platform of fear. They demanded Constitutional amendments to prevent flag burnings and gay marriages. The Republicans in the white house and congress spent money like drunken sailors on shore leave in Copenhagen. They grew government to unprecedented levels. In 2006 the Republican "American Values Agenda" was trotted out again. Surely they would win on that do nothing platform, they had won for years. Wrong!! The party lost big time. They lost again in 2008.

For 8 years the Republicans had a chance to do something for this country and they blew it big time. They did nothing for gun owners in the US. They failed to pass country wide concealed carry because Bush did not want it.

Right now the Republlican party is irrelevant at the national level. Unless the Republican party really gets its act together it is in danger of becoming extinct after it loses the 2012 elections.

I will say it once more: There is not 5 cents difference between the Republican and Democrat partys. They are both huge stinking cesspools.

Who ever thought that voting lessor evil strategies would take precedence over the novel idea of voting no evil best candidate when possible....likely the intentions when the system was set up.

I wouldn't know who ever thought that. I would love to vote for a "no evil best candidate". Certainly you understand that those criteria are highly subjective and every voter gets to interpret them individually.
