Iffin!
« on: June 04, 2009, 05:53:29 PM »
A person wer to fix 'imself a .25 acp handi, seems to me it would give new (and a useful) life to the .25.
I wonder how many reloads a fellow could get from a pd. of powder? ???
Anyone willing to guess the velocity ya could git with a 20" barrel?
With a 50grn. mould and a pound of powder a person oughta be able to shoot a while. :-\

I have this unchambered .32 Handi barrel ready to go, I was thinking of doing it up in .32 ACP which could be about as fun as a .25 ACP.  Larry

That oughta operate conservatively on powder, and have a little thump also. ;D

The Hornet can be loaded with as little as 2.0 gr of powder to push a cast bullet. Seems to me that would have more use then the above mentioned  cartridges.

Yabutt, ain't the hornet cases a lil bit trickier to work with than the straight walled pistol cartridge's?

spooked: That is a "Roger"  In fairness, all three cartridges would drive me nuts. My fingers aren't nimble enough to mess with them and making sure I only get 2 or three grains of powder in them would not be an enjoyment for me.

1.5 grains of powder is about max.  They're getting 800 fps from a 50 grain bullet in a 2" barrel, so I'd think you could get at least double that.  Could be close to a 22 magnum!  Lets do some economics!

4666 loads per pound of powder. .4 cents for a loads worth.
3920 bullets per 28 lbs of lead. 2.5 cents each.
Cases could be used endlessly...lets say 5 cents each.

TADA 7.9 cents a round!

MY dad always felt that the biggest problem with the .25 ACP was that there was a good pistol chambered for it. Everything made was a little belly gun. It would  be nice to see what could be done in say a 1911 frame with some good sights, he always thought.

FWIW You can also shoot cast in a .223. Midsouth sells a Bator mould that is pretty nice.
