What's in the stock of your Survivor?
« on: May 16, 2009, 05:49:53 AM »
An informal survey.

I have a small first aid kit, a pull through cleaner, and a lighter.  Been thinking about repacking it, maybe changing up the contents.

So, what have you got stuffed in the compartment?

Well mine has currently nothing at the moment, but that will change. I just dont have the set up I want for it as of right now....work in progress. But I too plan on about the same in for mine as wll as a decent (sharp!)folding knife, mirror, small magnifing glass, as well as some small fishing provisions.
I am building a pack rifle/shotgun combo, light weight and short. Nothing too complicated.

I didn't mean to come off as a wise guy in this thread.  I hunt my own property and sometimes neighbors from whom I have permission.  Survival is generally wrapped around thirst and getting home or to a neighbors for a beer.  Never anything more serious.  The cell phone is in my pocket and I can call for help if I broke a leg or something like that.  My Blackhawk and Buck knife are on my hip and my rifle or shotgun in my hand.  I'd hate to believe I'd fail to survive with them.  I could live on burdock and cattail roots, wild leek bulbs, dandelions, etc. etc. for weeks and months if I had to...........But I'd have less than 4 miles to get home to a warm bed.

Pete,my grandfather knew everything you could eat in the woods, plants, animals etc. It was common when i was a kid for him to walk off into the woods with his winchester 22lr single shot with iron sights and come home with a couple ringnecks, always shot in the head, killed on the ground...nobody else could find those birds with dogs and shotguns. Our generation will likely be the last to know these skills or to even value them and i'm pretty sure that's not a good thing.......

Filled with lead shot.

Filled with lead shot.

I've got lead in a couple of mine, .30-06 and .45-70, but I don't think it would be a great advantage in a .308.  They don't kick very hard and it would be just more to lug around.  That's one of the sweet things about the .308.  You get supeb accuracy and mild recoil compared to the .30-06.  I've only shot mine a tad over and under 400 yards on game, and it whacked both of them.  That's other than two hundred yard minus shots on deer.  About a dozen of those.  Recoil????  I don't even hear the gun go off, let alone feel it.

I have seen them before, but they must have been a short run. Wish they would run them again, they are sharp.
