Nice Ad!
« on: May 14, 2009, 08:47:38 AM »
So I open up the mail box a minute ago and staring back at me is a nice pic of 3 handis.  The ad is on the back of Fur-Fish-Game.  This is the first issue I've got of this mag so I don't know if the ad is a regular or a new deal.  Sorry if it's old news.   I like the ad.  "Step up to the simplicity" is a nice slogan for the handi.  The paragraph at the bottom is pretty good too.   My favorite part is the line, "If a quick follow up shot is on your list, read no further.  For the self-assured hunter, there's H&R,"

I haven't seen it, but that certainly is good...........and true!  I have had times in my life I needed a second shot, but it was a finish off shot on a downed critter that didn't quite bang flop.  I've never needed a real fast follow up shot.  I don't touch the trigger if there's a possibility of a miss, or worse a wound.

That's the way I am too Pete.  I only have one handi but I have a feeling it won't be that way for long.   The only time I've ever needed a fast follow up shot is when I plan on shooting 2 critters!   Although...I have applied a "finishing shot" before.

I wish I could convince my brother of this stuff.  He's crazy when it comes to hunting.  Last year he took a 300 yard shot with his Mosin Nagant at a doe.  Iron sights.  Luckily he missed completely.  He's never shot that thing beyond 100yards before!   When asked about it he said "whats the worst that could happen?"  I said that he could wound the deer and his answer was "So what? I was trying to kill it anyway!"   *sigh*

Anyway, what surprised me about the ad was...no Ultras! It showed one without sites, one with sites, and one of the stainless ones with a synthetic stock.  I would expect one standard pallet stock, one synthetic, and one ultra.  Whatever. Still a nice ad.

I wouldn't hunt anywhere around your brother.  He obviously has no respect for the game he hunts.  God put them there for us to use wisely not to waste.  I'd be sick wounding an animal and not finding it.

I carry a .357 Mag. Blackhawk or a 1858 Army Cap and Ball or a .50 Kentucky pistol depending on the season and I always put a bullet behind a deer or other critter's ear before I call him dead.  I don't believe in animals suffering.  If we do less, we're worse than animals.

FFG is an excellent magazine, we have been getting it since 1927 (missed as few years) and still have all the copies. Here is a cover from an Outdoor Life sent to the troops during WW2. I have over 9000 books and magazines pertaining to guns and hunting.

I shoot an encore and people don't understand why I prefer a single shot. It is because I know I have to make that first shot count and I go though a whole lot less ammo!!! I do like the h&r too and don't think there is a better and more accurate slug gun (I have one)!!! I would like some of the rifles too!!! They are cheaper than barrels for my encore......But I do love my encore!! Just can't beat the price of the h&r!!!!!!

There is nothing wrong with speaking the praises of the handi rifle...AT ALL!
It's a valuable companion and not bad too aquire different cals in.
But the price of our beloved little rifles should be noted (again) and not to rant, but Remington..which is watching this site, needs to know that that it is one of the main reason we love them and don't want them to hick up the price to compare with the TC prices. Leave it be and you will continue to acquire new customers... quality by numbers here...
Sorry , I just had to get that out of my system  ;D

Well written Aaron 8).

I have a good friend who is a card carrying TC nut.  In our last few range sessions together I have noticed that he is holding on to my BC 45-70 with the hands of a man in lust >:(!.  I think there might be something going on there I should no about ???...

In all seriousness, he echoes y'alls same sentiments, good price, good quality, good accuracy, good selection.  They are just a Good rifle.
