Wolf steel case 55gr. 223

Anyone use this stuff?  Does it shoot OK?  I just made a trade and part of the trade was 220 rounds of this stuff.  Any problems in a Handi rifle?

Rick,

  How much of it use wil depend heavily on one of two things , Is it the powder coating or the laquer .. The laquer will start to adhere to the chamber as the barrel gets hot and cause a seriously stuck case ... If it the polymer powder coating then it should be fine for the occasional plinking that expects to do at the range ... But be aware that it is steel cased and to watch for anything that might start to act unusual ... I had a 7.62x39 rossi single that liked the wolf better then any other ammo i could load or any of our local companies could produce... It was the newer type with the powder coating and i never had a problem with it ...

 One other thing... If you have the 1 in 9 twist rate ( newer 223 barrel )  Then when you have a chance to pick up a box of the Hornady TAP 75 gr bullets .. Do So they shot great groups out of mine  ( dime sized @ 100 yards or better ;) )

I have used it for a while and it shoots fine.  Like was said before, you do have to be mindful of the barell heating up so that the case does not get stuck.  Otherwise they shoot very well out of my gun (.223 fluted bull).

I do not have a .223 Handi, but I have used it in my Rem B/A. It shoots well enough that I have not bothered reloading .223. Its cheap enough to not worry about looking for the case. I have heard that steel cases can be reloaded. - Pete

I  shot a good bit of the 7.62X39 out of a rather nice Russian SKS.  They were dirty, not super accurate and tended to foul things.  I tried the Wolf Gold (brass) in my .22-250 with pretty much the same result.  Oh, almost forgot, shot a couple of boxes in my .30-06 with miserable results, the Gold that is. I guess for plinking they'd be fine, but I wouldn't hunt with them.

My philosopy is if you're going to buy a licence, buy the hunting gear, take time off work to hunt, scour the woods for days for a single shot, why not get the best bullet money can buy for your rifle.  What could it be, an extra 25 or thirty bucks?  Why risk the whole experience with an inferior bullet.

It's fun to go BANG with but thats about all I can say about it....and i have shot at least 5 boxes of the stuff in my ejector/ 1-12 twist barrel. It's pretty dirty too.  If ya want accurate ammo ... Handload or find a decent factory load.  If ya want BANG.... get a Mosin Nagant, or some cheap 223 Wolf ammo  ;D

I wont shoot it at all anymore.
Its dirty and I had an issue with the coating getting into my chamber.
Had another issue with loose bullets in the case.

Regardless if it's the older style lacquer coating or the polymer coating, steel cases aren't reloadable.   Strictly fire and forget.  Plus most I've seen have Berdan primers, with two holes in the bottom of the case.  Brass cases in current use normally have Boxer primers with a single hole centered in the bottom of the case.  That's what current dies are set up to use.

If I had to choose between Wolf centerfire ammo or not....I'd rather shoot a muzzleloader that is supposed to be dirty

Same here. Even the Gold line I didn't have much sucess with, and I found the brass hard to work with as well.

funny thing about that ammo is that it doesent headspace correctly in my 223 but commercial ammo does
