Do they locktight stock bolt?

try as I might, I can't seem to get the stock bolt to budge. I don't want to heave until something breaks. Does anyone know if they locktight this thing?

I've never found thread locker on any that I've removed, and I've removed a LOT of em, but that doesn't mean that someone didn't use it on one to prevent it from loosening which can ruin a hunt. :-\

my late 2008 hornet came from the factory with thread lock on the forend screw,
also on the stock bolt. :o

 Be sure you have a 6PT socket a long enough extention and a long handled ratchet. Have someone strong hold the rifle and you do the loosening. Just be sure your turning squarely so you don't round the bolt head. It WILL come off!!

 Its going to be hard to heat that to get it off.. BUT if you gut the receiver you will be able to see the end of the bolt and apply heat there to remove it.

acetone will also disolve tl compound and other stuff. use with caution.

I was alone and did not want to break anything off. I will try again witha helper but still am hesitant to heave-ho on the thing.

Stay tuned.

I have my new stock designed now. It is similar to the H&R thumbhole but has some minor geometry changes. I will adapt it to my personal form as I go along. Can't wait. The only thing holding me back right now is finding Titebond glue in Canada. As far as I know it is the only glue that dries dark.

I will post a how-to when this is all done.

Another thought... If you have a bench mounted vice. You could pad the jaws and lightly clamp the receiver in it for removal...

Clamp the receiver in a vice between two pieces of wood.  You will have much more of a chance of bending or breaking something by having two people trying to hold and turn something at the same time.  Firmly clamped in the vice and the bolt will come right out.  Larry

It seems to me that one member had one cross threaded. Putting it into a padded vice, using a 6 point socket and keeping your extension square to the bolt line should persuade it to come out. If for some reason you break it off (I do not think you will)- then you can get your stock off; and work on getting the rest of the bolt out. Good Luck ;)

Soft pine would be best to prevent marring the receiver's finish.
Then, as others said a 6 point socket, long extension and if you have one a T-handled ratchet or sliding breaker bar would help you keep eveything square while you torque at it.

Got it out. turns out it was crossthreaded. luckily, the bolt was damaged but the threads on the gun are still good. I bought a new 4" bolt and slid it in nice and clean.

What is with the cross threaded bolts?????  FYI everyone.......  I was at the Kittery Trading Post last Thursday to pick up my Shikari and I saw a "new" BC 45-70 in the rack.  I picked it up to check it out and the stock was LOOSE!!!!!  I could not believe it.  I thought back to posts re: cross threaded bolts and left it in the rack....glad to have the Shikari.  What is going on????

It could be poorly manufactured bolts or just putting them in too fast with something like a cordless drill would certainly cause the threads to gall.

I hate to say it, but I'd rather suspect that the morale of the employees that put them together during the last month or so before H&R Gardner closed may have a lot to do with it. If they were made in Ilion, it would make sense too, but so far no one has reported an Ilion marked frame. Did see a CAC serial number prefix on a 12ga Pardner at the NWTF banquet tonight tho, made in Gardner.

I had a new BC that was "cross threaded". I called customer service and they sent out a new bolt.  It would not even start one turn.  The threads in the receiver look OK, but something is wrong.  If it was a used gun, I would buy a tap and chase the threads.  With a new one, they can make it right.  I am waiting for a return label to send the whole thing back for repair. 

To remove the bolt, I put it in a padded vise.  It turned out really hard, but it came out.

The serial number starts with an XH, if anyone is interested.

The news is good.  I received the shipping label (so I didn't have to pay the freight) and sent the BC off on the 5th of Feb.  Today (23 Feb) it came back all in one piece.  I disassembled the stock and the threads in the receiver look good and all is right with the world.  I don't understand how the screw-up occurred in the first place but it was made right.

Back to the range soon.

My BC's stock was loose too but thats it, just loose. Tightened it up and was good to go.
