Bought a Tikkka 7mm with laminated stock and stainless barrel from gunbroker.com today. Should have it in about 7-9 days. I plan to mount a new Leupold VX-II 3x9x40 scope on it using Warne Maxima rings. Can anyone tell me if I need to buy the low or medium Warne rings with this scope? I have some gifts cards from Cabelas from past holidays so I'll get the scope, brass, and loading dies from them in about three weeks. This will be my elk gun for a planned hunt in Montanna in 2009. Life is good.

You'll love it. I have the same one in 338 Win Mag w/Zeiss 3x9 40mm. These are Warnes in medium.

Thanks Peterbuilt. I'll order a set of the Warne mediums tonight. I think either Midway or Midsouth had them for about $30. I could get them at Cabelas when I get the scope but they wanted about $50 for the same rings. Does the ring with the recoil lug mount on the muzzle end or the butt end of the rifle?
Did your rifle come with a limbsaver recoil pad from the factory or some other brand of pad?

I've been seriously thinking about a Tikka/laminate in 7mm myself, topped off with a Zeiss Conquest and Warne rings, thanks for the picture 379 Peterbilt. BTW, I heard that Tikka discontinued the laminate stock, is this true?

Don't know about the discount. I paid $680 before shipping on gunbroker. Couldn't find a Tikka of any kind in a store within 200 miles. Had a gunsmith who was working at BassPro said if I bought a wooden stock for hunting that the laminated was the best as it was not affected by the weather like a solid wood one was. I bought it just becuase I like the looks of it and the little extra weight will help with the recoil.

I don't like the palstic stock on the Tikka, way too cheap looking and it just doesn't feel right to me. The laminate is the only way to go for me, looks great!
