Handi ?
« on: May 13, 2008, 03:52:35 PM »
Hi
New to the forum, but have been lurking for awhile. I am now getting interested in Handi`s. My question is: Are they made in .375 Winchester?
Thanks,
ArkyJack

The closest your going to come in a factory Handi is the 38/55 , depending on just how bad you want one , there is always the re-bore and re-chamber route .

Welcome aboard, this is a great place to talk about hunting and shooting :D I am not positive but I think the 38-55 is being discontinued. If you want one you will need to start looking right away. If you get one, get one that has been made in 2007. There were issues with bore diameter and chamber sizes for a long time. They finally fixed this issue, then they are going to drop that chambering. They came on the Buffalo Classic and were a little more expensive than a regular Handi. Of course there was always the barrel accessory route. If you like big bore straight walled cartridges, there is the 444 Marlin and 45-70. If you want one real bad, as Stimpy suggested you can get a rebore job done. That will cost some where around $300+ and the cost of the donor rifle.

Welcome to GBO, Jack.
You came to the right place! There are folks here that have forgot more about Handi rifles than I'll ever be able to learn.
For the most part, a friendly bunch, always willing to help with your questions.

Enjoy your time here.

Thanks for all the input, guys. Since asking my question about a .375 Win Handi, I have just came up with a Handi in .44 Mag. It has a NL series marking. What year does that show? Bore is slugged at .432, so it is a bit "Fat". Shoots J bullets fairly good, but I will have to cast some Lyman 429421 and 429244GC and see what the as cast diameters are. Hopefully the will be about .431-2 out of 50-50 ww-lino. Anyone have experience with this gun? The barrel is a micro-groove type.
TIA
Jack

ArkyJack, welcome to GBO, i also like the big bore handi-rifles, in the big bore cal's i have a 44 mag., 45/70, and 500 mag., i like them all, try a 45/70 you will like it, i have two of them one with open sights, and one with a scope.
