Correct scope base mounts?
« on: May 01, 2008, 07:20:05 AM »
I finally couldn't stand it any longer and yesterday ordered a Model 12 Low Profile Varminter in 204 caliber.  I figured I couldn't go wrong with Leupold scope mounts but thankfully I read the reviews on the Midway site.  ALL the reviews state that the rear mount is too long, it extends over the back of the action, and if reversed it extends a bit over the ejectiion port.  The guys also said the one piece Leopold partially covers the port.  Many returned the Leopolds and said the Burris mounts were just great.  From what I can determine from the Burris site the choice would be their 2 piece Truemounts or their reversible 2 pieceTruemounts.  What do you Model 12 owners recommend?  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Also, with the heavy fluted SS barrel design, will standard height dovetail rings allow a 40MM scope to clear the barrel?
