30-30 powder

just wondering what some of you're favorite powders are in the 30-30. just got a 30-30 and have loaded the first bunch without anything great coming out of it. also interested in loads for the 125gr HP and 150gr FN

I am using Reloader 7 with the Sierra 125HP. This is for my levergun, not the Handi.
Good and consistent accuracy about .5 gr below the max published by Alliant of 30.0.

I'll second 3031.  I use IMR's T/C Contender loads with the 125 Ballistic Tip, 130 Hdy Spitzer, and 150 Ballistic Tip, as well as Speer's data with the 110 Plinker for Varmints.

 Several pounds of medium burning powder have been burned in my .30-30 Handi in the quest to find THE powder, and that powder in my rifle is IMR 3031, hands down.

I've had excellent results with W-W 748 with 170 gr. bullets. Also works well with the 150 grainers.

I have used 3031 for everything from 170 cast to 130s and it usually works great. i wonder if Du Pont didn't choose the name for this powder because of it's affinity for the 30-30

In my Handi, W748 has been the most consistently accurate powder with both 150 and 170 grain bullets. TAC and H322 have also shown promise. Not sure it makes a difference, but Winchester LR primers have been the catalyst for the most accurate loads as well.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned RL-15, an outstanding powder for the 30/30 with any bullet.

There are very few  cartridges that don"t do good with IMR3031 my pre-handi H&R shoots 130 sierra's 150 seirra's  and 170 cast good with it

748 and 3031.  Lately I've tried XMP5744 with cast 173 grain bullets--seems like lighter recoil, but same accuracy.  Shoot 30-30 exclusively in leverguns.  At some point, if I find a used one at a bargain, I'd like to try my30-30 handloads in a Savage bolt action.

For my 30-30 and my 30-06 I use nothing but IMR-3031.  While it may not be the fastest, it is the most consistent.

I have had GREAT results with the 125 TNT speer bullet with Reloader 7.
when i was testing these for my 26" encore i may have just got lucky but
i had good results from 748,3031,2520,4064 also.
I loaded 3 shells with each grain wgt and increased the charge of each 3
in my test.
my gun loves the 125 TNT and 30.5 Reloader 7 @ 2580fps over my chroney
also as i said i may have just got lucky but the 3 shots with 30.5 R7 was only 3fps
high and 3 low for 6 fps dif in three shots.
I NEVER had this close of a spread before.
But I neck turned the rem cases,debured the flash holes,used primer pocket reamer,
and all was trimmed to the same length and scaled powder charges for my test.
but as many already know Reloader 7 meters like a dream.
Also the Sierra 125 fphp worked well in the win and marlin lever actions with 29.5 of Reloader 7

Has anyone tried the Ramshot TAC or Big Game powder in the .30-30?  I see it listed in their guide and was wondering if anyone has any experience with it.

I try others, but keep coming back to IMR 4064 for .30-30, .308 and .30-06.
