Shot My New Handi Today
« on: January 05, 2008, 02:48:32 PM »
A friend and I went to the range today to sight in our new rifles. My friend had a new Remington 770 .243 and I had my new .223 Handi, heavy barrel with synthetic stock. When I bought my Handi I also bought a Tasco 6-24x40mm target/varmint scope which they mounted and bore sighted for me at the store. I kid you not, they did such an excellent job of bore sighting it that I had it zeroed in with only 3 shots. I was shooting about 1 inch groups at 100 yards, with no stray shots. I even managed to explode 2 beer bottles at 100 yards. That's pretty darn good out of the box accurcey.  I was amazed how accurate and reliable it was. For $270.00 tax included I feel I got one heck of a great rifle at a great price. H&R Handi rifles are a great value for the money.

We swiched rifles, I shot his and he shot mine and he actually liked my Handi better than his Remington. He said, he wished he'd bought a .223 Handi instead of the .243 Remington.  After we finished shooting we went to our local gun dealer and he traded his new Remington for a .223 Handi.

The moral of this story is I love my new .223 Handi and my friend is a lot happier with his.

I didn't get addicted on my 1st handi. I am getting another and hopefully it will start then. I like them but I am not as addicted as my encore yet. I hope the same happens with the KP1.

I've read in this forum how some guys have had accuracy problems or faulty extractors/ejectors, (mine has an extractor), but that certainly wasn't the case with mine. Prior to shooting my Handi I cleaned the bore with Outers Nitro Solvent gun cleaner (just patches no brass brush) then ran dry patches through the bore until they came out dry and clean. Then I cleaned and dried the action (just the parts I could reach without having to remove the barrel). I had heard it was a good idea to polish the bore then remove the barrel to give the action a thorough cleaning. I didn't do this and it didn't seem to be an issue with my rifle.

Have I become a Handi-a-holic yet? Well, let's just say my next rifle will most defiantly be a Handi. You can't beat them for the money.

I sure hope my .223 shoots that well out of the box. Bought a new BB .223 with standard stock last March, had a 3-9 X40 Bushnell Banner and extra high rings for it by May and still have not put them together and started shooting. I have collected several brands of factory ammo to try. I think it bothers my neighbor more than me, he shoots ALOT and has put together some light loads to try in this gun. That dang making a living thing keeps getting in the  way.   JamesIII

The 30/30 and 45/70s are on the short list of MUST HAVE handi's , both shoot very well , then there is the 25/06 , 243 , 22-250 , 270 , 308 and 30/06 .

Depending on were you live and what you shoot for , the list can be changed to fit your needs .  ;)  ;D

My .223 seems to really like Remington 55-grain soft points.

Our local gun shop has a new .243 Handi, BB, laminated stock with the thumb hole. The last couple of times I've been there I pick it up and think, Yeah...,I'd like to have this rifle. It has a price tag of $349.00 which I thought was a little high. The guy at the shop said he'd take $325.00 tax included. What do you think?

$325 OTD is not a bad price , thats what R&R is selling them for but with theirs you have tax + shipping and FFL trans fees , so that makes the local guy about $30 to $50 cheaper , not bad at all .  ;)
