What's a ROTA 83 worth
« on: September 28, 2007, 02:27:11 PM »
I've checked other forum's about this Model 83 12ga 28" bbl 6.5 lbs. O/U and haven't come up with much.   Checked with TRISTAR and they refered me to ROTA.  They haven't responded as yet.   Bought it in 1992.  Works good.  Looks good.

I have seen one or two for sale, i remember them being over $1,000.  I just dont remember the exact price.  Of course the condition influences the price.

Really !
My teenage son saw it on the gun rack in Tackle Box.   A man had just traded it in .    I was getting some supplies when my son called me over to the counter.   The owner and I both saw the gleam in his eye as he showed me the Rota, and he said he didn't know what it was worth so he'd take $200 for it.    I think all 3 of us were happy with that sale. ;D

The best transactions are when everyone is happy...  Has your son been using it?

Doug:
He's not an avid hunter, probably put 2000 rounds through it these last fifteen years.    Just talked with him, so I had to edit this post.
He did shoot some clays for awhile, but not extensively.   When he got into duck and geese hunting he put it up because of the steel shot laws.   Said he hasn't hardly used it at all these last eight years.

The  other day I was going through some old papers and found the bill of sale on it and thought I'd find out what I could about it.    So far there hasn't been much.    It has the features of a well built gun, and all the years of use has pretty much proven it's durability.     That's really all that matters for a keeper.

;D Navy Arms was the distributor back in 1991 for this Rota Italian made O/U Model 83.

The 1991 No.82 Shooter's Bible listed it for $320, the Model 93 for $360, and the Model 96 for $530.
All three have chromed receivers and chromed lined barrels, European Walnut stocks with checkered wrist and forend.  The 96 came with a set of 5 chokes.

And those prices are over 16 years old.
