excellent bullet in the 25/06 for whitetails. i've used for antelope, mule deer and whitetails. its a heavily constructed bullet that holds to gether real well. never recovered on yet.

Good choice!  I had a talk with a Hornady technician, and he told me that the 120 gr. bulletls are designed to expand at 25-'06 and .257 Weatherby velocities, and don't do well in the smaller .25s.    The 117s do, though.

I would recommend you look at the 117 grain bullets offered. There are 3 choices depending on the cover and size of your deer. The HP's will work but it is really not what they were designed for. YMMV  - https://www.hornady.com/shop/?ps_session=942083987a6c0aafbf1bfe6b4a38d96c&page=shop%2Fbrowse&category_id=d31f4eb31194555c88ac4b0e2bb9a44a

I think if you will use the Hornady 120 gr. HP, you will wonder why you ever used anything else on deer. I'm basing this on personal experience. Others will tell you that's not what they are designed for but, give it a try . Out of a 257 Roberts work your load up slowly watching for signs of pressure. Accuracy seems to be best up against a Max load, and this particular bullet loves speed. You will be amazed how fast it drops animals in their tracks.

For my 120s I use speer sp. I can't see a HP doing what a sp can do.

Shot a truck load of whiitetails with Sierra and Hornady in 117 & 120.  Speed is excellent, bullets perform well, and deer go down.

I once killed two adult doe deer with one Hornady 120 bullet.  Lined them up so the first was shot through the neck and the second one in the chest.  Second deer looked like it had been shot at very close range with bird shot - yet the died in her shadow.

The 120 gr Hornady hollow point was designed by Hornady for medium game (deer) in .25-06 and was the long range Hornady bullet for the caliber until the SST's and interbonded boattails were introduced.   It should do a fine job for you.

Not sure if they still do, but Winchester also loaded a 120 HP for .25-06 called the "PEP" or positive expanding point.  Maybe it inspired the Hornady bullet.  I'm no historian on this, so don't quote me.  Just the way I remember things.  I bought a 700 BDL in .25-06  as soon as Remington brought it out.

You certainly remember correctly, here is the current loading:

Both the Hornady 120HP and the Winchester 120 PEP loading were introduced in 1972.  It is possible that they are the same bullet, both made by Hornady.  Or not.
