Stoeger Uplander 20 Gauge Opinions
« on: August 29, 2007, 03:40:28 PM »
Does anyone have any experience with the Stoeger Uplander 20 gauge side by side shotgun? I know it's not
going to be close in quality to any of the high dollar shotguns out there. I can't afford one of those anyway.
I'm just looking for an adequate bird hunting side by side 20 gauge that I can afford. I'm not going to put
thousands of rounds through it. Most likely I'll just hunt with it occasionally.  Thanks.

I've owned both 20 and 28. They are worth the money. As you said not deluxe but a value for money spent.

Bought one in 12 new off the shelf, after one fall the main springs that power the ejectors AND the firing mechanism failed, returned it for a new one,one year later...SAME PROBLEM,returned for $ and the dealer here does not carry them any more.Good looking guns, unreliable at best.

I initially purchased the 12 ga and really liked it.  No problems.  Then I wanted a 16 ga and purchased the 16ga.  Interestingly both calibers use the same frame and mount the same.   My local gun shop carries Stoeger and does not carry Baikal.

In my opinion they are a fine value and excellent field guns.

I examined a Stoeger Uplander tonight at Bass Pro Shop. It was very nice looking. It had a straight English styled walnut stock with lots of curl in the wood, and removable chokes. The price was $349.95. I've read some unfavorable reports on them. I sure liked it, but I'm a little afraid of getting a dud.

Heres a pic of the second of the two i owned, they both started misfiring after a few hundred rounds fired, they were great looking shotguns, just poorly designed.

You need to buy what your comfortable with.
Having said that you should also check out the following board http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=18&pp=20&sort=lastpost&order=desc&daysprune=-1&page=1 which is hosted by Benelli, the parent of Stoeger but also the posters are brutally honest and don't hold back their opinions.

No experience, but I was at a gun shop that had a good selection of their guns so I handled them all. Very nice for the money. The big issue is whether you will like a side by side. I personally don't like the way they carry. They seem awkward to carry. Yesterday my son and I went to a big gun shop and he tried all kinds. He thought the side by sides were awkward to handle too.  I used to have a side by side. Never liked it because it was awkward to carry. So I guess my point is that you should try to handle them first.

I'm craving to get my hands on a SxS.   I like the looks of the Stoeger, but I'm wanting something a little lighter in weight, and in a .410 GA.   May find something at the Gun Show this week end.  :D
Kinda got my eye set on the DeHaan???? ::)

I have one in 12 gauge and last time i shot it I accidentally got excited and pulled both triggers at once with high-brass 5s. Since then whenever i fire a barrel, it wont let me pull the other trigger. I think the safety engages after one shot(it isnt supposed to anyway). If i disengage the safety I can fire the other barrel, just not in sequence. Not sure what I should do with it...
