I am thinking of buying a Stoeger 2000. Is this a good choice I am not wanting to spend more than $500.00 So I think this is the best choice for the money. What do you think?

I think you should search out the Benelli Forums. They are the importer of Stoeger guns and they have several forums on that site one for each brand they import. There is a Stoeger Forum there with some real knowledgeable folks who actually own and use the guns and they speak freely there about them. I know back when I was considering a Stoeger O/U I spent a good deal of time there and learned a LOT about the problems and good points of them. I recall several threads on the 2000 but since it was of no interest to me I didn't read them.
I looked in my bookmarks for the link to it but didn't locate it for some reason. It might have been on my old computer and not on this newer one. But it's an official part of the Benelli website so you should be able to get there from it or just do a google search for them. You'll find more folks there who own them than any other place altho we might have some folks here who do also.
The one thing that surprised me most was the site is totally ignored by the site owners and the folks ay all sorts of bad things about the company and the guns and it's never challenged or responded to. The most common complaint back then was that customer service was just about nonexistent. As a result some of the more knowledgeable folks there figured out how to fix the problems with the O/U guns and were explaining it on the forums so you could fix them yourself since CS wouldn't. Never once did one of those kinda threads get dumped as far as I could tell.

Before i purchased my Stoeger I read this forum
http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=18
which is hosted by Benelli. I remember the posts being very candid to the point of bashing the manufacturer.

Yes Doug that is the one I was referring to but had lost the link to it. I again set a link to it in my bookmarks on this computer. Thanks. That forum is the one to go to for informed opinions from the largest group of Stoeger owners I'm aware of. Back when I was reading it there were some really knowledgeable folks there.

I looked at all the postings in the benelli forum for the M 2000 and I have decided against buying one. I believe I will spend a little more and get a Remington 11-87 instead. It feels just like my Remington 7400 anyway. I have heard more good things than bad about the 11-87. I was just trying to save some money. I guess some times you just have to shuck out the money and cry
about it later when no one is watching.

No problems with my 10 year old 11-87, ever. If you are a Remington Guy, nothing but a Remington will feel right.
You might find a good used one pretty reasonable.
