22 accurize tool
« on: March 20, 2007, 02:12:16 PM »
I read somewhere in here that some people use a 22 accurizer tool.  What is that and where do you get it

  Thanks

There are lots of different ways to accurize a .22, and most of them use some kind of tool.  What is this tool you refer to supposed to do?

A 22 accurizer tool sounds like one of those magic tools to make a .22 more accurate. Put me down for 2, one for Remingtons and one for Winchesters, my H&R's don't need one.....<><.... ;D

I think this is what you are talking about.  I am thinking of getting one, but I wanted to see one first, or talk to someone who tryed it.

If you have to do some thing to your bullet to make it more accurate, Then you are using the wrong bullet.   KN

when I want target and match accuracy I go to higher dollar target and match ammo[federal gold medal target  ammo] is what I go for but there is better [I'm cheap and it works for me]there is Eley, and RWS and if I start shooting matches I will try them .Wolf is also supposed to be good.
If I want playtime, can killing firepower, I go cheap,Thunderbolts,Golden bullets,Peters,or the federals in the red box .These are mostly good for head shots on Squirrels too.
anything bigger and I get premium hunting loads like Mini Mags,SGB's and thier like.I reload all my centerfires but with the selection of .22's out there I don't get into messing around  with thier specs like that.

Here is a really old review we did of what I suppose was the original such tool. The company is no longer in business however. I think I still have one laying around somewhere and maybe even one for the .22 magnum but am not sure.

I have one of the old Hanned SGB tools for 22LR. I buy cheap ammo that shoots well in my gun and then I file the top off flat. It is supposed to accurize the round, not sure, but it does not hurt accuracy. What it does better than anything is make one hell of a Small Game Bullet. It makes a wide meplate and smacks the hell out of squirrels and rabbits. It is a pain in the butt and there are facotry rounds "NOW" that are probably as good. But I can take Winchester Super X solids and file them flat and have one shot kills all day. I have used them on ferel dogs and they work well.

Are you talking about the tool that swages the bullets to be more uniform ?
If so, I have only ever seen one of them. Hard to find and not sure it would
really be worth anymore effort on my part to try to find one. all of my .22's
shoot better that I can shoot them anyway. They are plenty accurate for what I will
be using them for. Besides, squeezing a rimfire round in something that to me looked
like a pair if pliars, does not exactly inspire warm fuzzy feelings with me in the first place.  :o

I made one of these. I really can't report accurassy, I don't shoot groups. The big advantage is a big hollow point which transfers more of the bullet's energy to game. I use sub sonic ammo out of a match 10/22 for small game. After running through a design similar to the paco kelly a distinctive whomp can be heard when the bullet strikes game. It seems to kill faster and more cleanly than the bullet from factory. I can't say I would pay a whole lot for it though, it's nice for hunting, but I wouldn't have the patience to sit down and do a whole brick for acurassy. I don't know if the jig is still sold to file the nose flat, but that wouldn't work for me, since the bullet would be lightened the velocity would go up.

Are you talking about those (rimfire cartridge gauges)?  These sell for $85.00.  Wonder about these myself.

why bother? You find ammo your gun likes and stick with it for serious stuff. For can blasting use what ever is cheap. While filing a flat on a bullet makes sense a plain 22 bullet kills well enough for most what ever your going to shoot with one with out having to file a flat on it. That is in most cases for somethings the flat I suppose would help as  I do know for cast bullets a flat is neccessary for killing performance.
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.
