cutco hunting knife
« on: January 21, 2007, 08:46:43 AM »
Has anyone had any experience with the rubber handled cutco hunting knives? I've heard they are very good but I've never seen one. Guys around here say they are one of the few knives that can skin a moose without resharpenning. Thanks and God Bless!

Don't know about the rubber handled one but my dad had a cutco with a serrated edge he used to keep in his boat. (I am pretty sure it spent a couple of midwest winters in that boat).  It was the biggest knife he ever used with maybe a 4.5" blade, it has never been sharpened, and is as still very sharp, he did chip the tip off though.

Cutco is a division of Alcas Corp who also owns Ka-bar Knives.  All three are located in Olean, N.Y.  I've heard Cutco knives are good, but never tried one. I've a couple of Ka-bar's and they are good knives.

As Joel said, Cutco is located in Olean, NY (Alcas corp)..about 25 from my house. They are high quality..but pricey !
I am a fan of Ontario knives, I know personally, many of the people there..the plant is located about 4 miles from my house.

www.ontarioknife.com   they also own Queen    www.queencutlery.com

I deal in quality cutlery as a sideline and will say that if you want a pure skinning knife that will take and hold a great edge..don't overlook Russell Green River, out of Massachussetts.

Just search the web (text) for ...Green River Buffalo skinner......ck out the 5' model (handiest size..) I sold one of those to a farmer friend who does a lot of butchering. He claims that he can skin 3 beeves without a real "touchup"..
If you don't want the truth, don't ask me.  If you want something sugar coated...go eat a donut !  (anon)
