Bore polishing
« on: December 24, 2006, 06:45:39 AM »
Hey guys,
Was just browsing Midway USA looking for J-B Bore paste which they apparently dont have, but noticed Tubb final finish bore polishing system which is bullets impregnated with some sort of polish compound. Has anybody used these things?? They seem a little pricey to me. I will find some J-B cause I want to use it on the 25/06 when it arrives.

JB is a Brownell's product, you can get it from a GBO sponsor, Midsouth. Please read the Cleaning and Lapping link in the FAQ, there are several alternatives available at your local supermarket that will achieve the same results.

The Tubb's product has been discussed at length, the general contention is that the micro-groove rifling wouldn't benefit from it's use and in fact may be detrimental.

The only polishing I've ever done besides by shooting a lot.

A friend sent me some Corbin's paste.  Took all the tooling right out of it before it was ever fired.

Never had any copper fouling. But, the first 300 thru it were Moly'd.
It's a very slick shinning bore.

While sorting bullets with my load.  It showed a marked preference for 40gr V max in .223's.
Less than .300".

Hope this helps, good luck,

I've used Mother's Chrome Polish & Flitz Metal Polish with good results.  I don't really think it's necessary to polish the bore, but it may reduce fouling and make us feel better.

Thanks for all the tips. I happen to have Mothers Chrome Polish left over from the last bike I had. I'll try it (when the gun gets here) I hate waiting, but guess it's part of the enjoyment of getting a new rifle.
