Old walther

an old fellow i know  just gave me  a walther ppk in 32 cal   that he presumably took off a german/nazi officer  it has  a little eagle with  an N under it  on the slide and  on the end  and chamber area of it   

it has wood looking grips and a loop for a strap thingy behing  the magazine 

the serial number is 386787k   
i just wanted to know if it was athentic  maby a rough estimate on value  it is in great condition.

IIRC Eagle with an "N" was Police.

I think I would hang on to that one ! I have seen them go for as high as 600.00
but not much more. They are valued at higher, but finding someone to buy it for more would
most likely be difficult ! Those markings are not real rare. A skull and crossbones will fetch a nice price
but the Eagle was on lots of them. There are just way too many PP's and PPK's out there for them to really bring a good price. I had the tiny PPK (shrunk even smaller than the standard PPK but I can't remember the model number) in 6.35 mm and didn't get near what I was expecting for it.

Hello...

I would tend to place the value at the high end of what has been mentioned to you ($300-1300), depending of course on condition.  Condition is just about everything as far as collectible guns go.

A k-marked serial number would indicate police usage, making the pistol even more desirable.  I would suggest checking the websites of places like Collectors Firearms or Simpson's to get an idea of what the sale price would be on comparable pistols.

I agree, but value (unfortunately) is dictated by what a buyer is willing to pay for it.
I have lost money on guns that were valued at much higher than what I actually got for them.
