Just ordered my Freedom Arms model 97, 45 Long Colt...
« on: September 20, 2006, 03:22:46 PM »
Freedom arms, Model 97, 45 Long Colt, 5 1/2" barrel, fixed sights, fluted cylinder, inverted crown, marcata, and my last name engraved on the back strap...to some day pass down to my son, who was born this year.

Now, I need a recommendation for a good hulster to carry for "multi-purpose" (hunting, plinking, etc) and I would also like few recommendations for ammo to use for white tail.

Very nice choice, I did a review on one of those some while back. Sure wish I'd been in a position to keep it but just couldn't swing it at the time. FA makes a nice holster for it you might want to take a look at. They sent me one along for the review. I liked it quite well.

Which model holster was it? Strong side? Cross draw? High ride?

Which in your oppinion is the best "multi-purpose" hulster?

The one they sent me was a strong side holster as that was what I requested. For hunting use and general carry of a non concealed weapon I prefer either strong side or cross draw. When walking thru the woods strong side is my preference.

Is that review you wrote still up somewhere?

Yes I've moved a copy of it to the top of the FA forum now. Some how I ended up with two copies of it there. Dunno how that happened unless one was already there.

Check out El Paso Saddlery Co. They make a Tom Threepersons holster in strongside or crossdraw with hammer thong or strap. This is an excellent holster for $60.00. :)

Ordered a cross draw (no belt, but to be worn on my pant belt) from circlekb.com with the tooling. Maybe later I will get a nice strong side to "finish" the original appeal of this gun of "old school" style, but right now I need one to hunt with for this upcoming season.

I use the Blocker leather version of the Texas Hi Rider.  Its great, easy on and off and secure till you need it.

Gotta phone call...the UPS dropped off my revolver today. They said it would be 6 weeks. Now, since WHEN does a company deliver on time, much less early (even if only a few days)? I was planning on loading ammo this weekend.  ;D Looks like I will have to buy some ammo after all. LOL.
