Hello Andy. Nice collection you have there.
Have you given the gun a good cleaning? It seems to be the trend that new firearms are coming from the factory very dirty. Be careful using heavy duty aerosol cleaning products like Gun Scrubber on plastic parts, they tend to turn those parts white. There is a version of Gun Scrubber that is advertised as being "Synthetic Safe", but I've not used it yet.
If dirt isn't the problem and the gun does appear to be malfunctioning, then:
1. If you bought the Savage new at a gun shop, I would return it to that shop and explain the problem. A reputable dealer will stand behind what they sell.
2. If you purchased it at Wal Mart, I'm not sure they guarantee firearms, but I've heard they will return it to the manufacturer.
3. If you attempt to make repairs yourself, you may void any manufacturer's warranty.
4. If you must repair it yourself, you may want to check the Gunsmith or Rimfire forums for advice.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
