Mr. Taurus, please make some guns without ports...
« on: September 10, 2006, 07:49:55 AM »
There are groups of gun enthusiast that like ported revolvers and groups that don't.  I am from the ones that don't like the ports in a revolver; and just like me, there are thousands more.  If you make the same revolvers that you already make but without ports, I will buy at least the following:

1.  44 Mag Tracker
2.  Mod 627 Tracker in 357 mag (either 4", 6" or both)
3.  M85 in 38 spl
4.  M425 total titanium 41 mag

The ports are anoying to me but I like the looks of those revolvers named above.  If you make them without ports, I will purchase all those that I named above and maybe more.

Have you fired the 44mag Tacker? I have and dont even notice the ports. I was waiting for a big flash and a ton of noise but got niether. I cant speak for the other models. Now I will say I have only put standard factory 240gr ammo through it.

I did own the model 425 Total Titanium in 41 Mag.  Excellent revolver.  I whish I still have it.  When I made some shots late in the afternoon, the flash I've seen looked like the drag racing engines!  When I shot lead reloads, it took a lot of time cleaning the front sight to remove lead.  Other than that and the fact that it kicked like a mule when using magnum factory loads, the gun was very accurate and easy to carry.  I will buy another one like that.  I just prefer the non-ported one.  I had been looking at a 44 mag tracker for a while but I just have at least other three 44 mags in the safe; so the justification has not come to me (unless it is non-ported).  How does your 44mag traker shoots?

well, I had it out twice and it shoots ok. I have not had it on a rest yet to realy see it's accuacy. One thing mine does with magnum factory loads is kick "sharp" to the palm and the little bit of muzzle flip it has is up and to the right. It's like it twists in my hand. With light loads it does not do it. The pattern I shot last was about the size of my hand at 25-30yrds(25rnd box) it shot to the left and I adjusted the sights as far as I could (I thought) to bring the group to the center but the shots still hit to the left. Then I realized that my screwdiver was just a bit too big and was hanging up on part of the sight. I found out 'cause I tried one last time to move the impact to the right and as I was trying to turn the srew it turned way too much( I was talking and not paying attention) and I looked down and saw that the rear sight was hanging partway off to the right. I never found the paper again as I only had 5 rounds left so I will have to try again next time. I was shooting mainly my shotgun due to the dove opener so I didnt plan on shooting it much. But as for loud and bright I havnt seen in my gun yet. Oh one thought would be to buy a six inch model and have a GOOD gunsmith cut it and replace the front sight. Like a .357Tracker in 6" cut to 5", That would be cool.

I have bought a new Taurus 218 Bee revolver, 6.5" bbl without ports.  I tried a few loads and I found an excellent load using 45 gr rem bullet ahead of a moderate amount of H4198 (about 1/2 gr before the max).  I can't wait to see how fast is that one coming out of the bbl.  I will be happy with a 1600 to 2000 fps.  I was able to get a 0.8" group at 30 yards, open sight.  Tomorrow I will put a variable scope and push the distance to 50 yards.  You see Mr. Taurus, I am serious about non-ported guns.  Keep them coming.  Thanks.

p.s.  This is an excellent gun!

Plug the holes with plastic caulking.
Enjoy the recoil. Some people enjoy there brains
shock up. If they have any.

Got a 2" M44C and I got to say that without the ports this would be a handful.  Did not notice any large upper flame like any drag racer, just a bit more loud on the hearing even with protection.

Have to agree about the ports. Looked long and wide for an non-ported 45ACP Tracker. Love it. I too think that Taurus over did the porting.
