I've been using the English gunflints by Tom Fuller. I get 'em from Track of the wolf, and they'll last about 50 shots or so in my Dixie squirrel rifle. I need to learn how to properly sharpen 'em, I don't figure it could be too tough, but I want to learn how to do it right. Anybody got any suggestions?

I use an old chainsaw file with a step ground in the end to take small spalls(flakes) off the bottom of the leading edge of the flint, a brass tool would be safer, but doesn't last as long, I just plug the touch hole if I need to knapp after the rifle is charged. Just place the tool against the edge of the flint and tap the tool with a short starter to break a spall off the edge to bring it back into service, work your way across the front of the flint trying to keep it even. Depending on the lock and quality of the rock, 75-100 shots on one flint can be expected.

Here is an article which should help with the sharpening.  Quick has a tool which is like what the article shows except that the has the step ground all the way around.
