Mine is in .308 and I handload, but the rifle is everything I could ask for.  Good finish and well designed.

I have three (well two and a Weatherby Vanguard), and they are all great shooters.  They are also nicely finished, good looking rifles.  Wish I had ordered one or two of them with the walnut stocks, but I probably would have just dinged them up.  With good handloads they are all capable of sub MOA groups (.223, .243 and .338).  Enjoy  ;D

I have the Vanguard in .270 and it shoots great MOA or under.  I use Federal Premmium 140's.

I have a "slightly modified" Vanguard in .270 Win.  It is definitely capable of Sub Moa groups.  If I had to use factory ammo I would head right for the Federal stuff and see which one works best.  Federal is making so damn good ammo these days.

SeaBass,
What are the slight modifications that you made.  I have a .270 Vangard also.  It shoots great with factory ammo.  My only problem with standard firearms is the LOP.  I have long arms and they just don't fit to the shoulder as well as I would like.  The Vangard fits better then most however.    I agree with you on the Federal ammo.  I use it for the .270, 308 and my 6.5x55.

I ditched the tuperware stock.  Fit, finished, and installed a Richards Microfit stock in Royal Camo Laminate.  I don't remember the exact LOP but I cut the stock at least an inch longer than the factory one.  I installed score high pillars and glassbedded the action and the first couple inches of the barrel. I also installed Decelerator recoil pad and a Timney trigger.  It's a shooter. ;D

Slight modification?  I have done nothing to mine...yet.   I've been working on my new Encore this year.   I like the looks of yours, very nice. I had not heard of that stock maker before (there are do many).  I will do some serious thinking about what kind of stock to pur on mine.  I do want to change it.  How much does yours weigh?

I have a Vanguard in 7mag that I bought in 1978 (I think).  Fit and finish is excellent and action is as smooth as glass.  Wood still looks great.  Great gun even back then, for the money.

I have one for sale in the classified section.  It is titled unique Howa because it was made for the Austrailan market.  Wish someone would buy it.  Most just don't know what fine guns they are

I have one in 6.5x55. I don't believe that they are making that caliber any more. Overall, a very nice made rifle. I was very disappointed with the plastic stock, but I plan on replacing it with a Boyd's laminate soon. Mine doesn't have the 3 position safety, but again, I believe that the newer models do.

I have a 1500 in .30-06, new in the box and never been fired.  I bought it several years ago when a local gun dealer was retiring.  It has an awesome stock since it was made in the same factory in Japan that used to make the Weatherbys.  I take it out of the box once a year, wipe it down with a treated gun rag, and stick it back in the box.  I guess I should really sell it so someone could get some use out of it.  ANyway, it's interesting reading the comments on a gun I knew little about but admired the lines and the stock.
