New Rifle
« on: August 14, 2006, 05:18:51 AM »
I am looking for a new rifle in .270 cal. I cannot find a Tikka T3 Hunter in .270 anywhere in Iowa or So. Minn. I am looking for a medium priced rifle somewhere between $450.00 - $600.00. I could go with a Ruger and do the trigger work myself, I have done it before. What other brands of guns do you think I should take a look at?

Thanks!

I have had Savage in the past. I dont like the "Cheap Feel" of the Savage rifles. Good shooters, just kinda cheap.

if you really do like the Savages, could buy an aftermarket synthetic stock for it.

Have you looked at the CZ 550? Nice mauser action with a good trigger and generally exceptional accuracy.

Savages are just plain nasty---the Omaha Scheels has Tikka's----if not willing or able to travel----get the Ruger.

I found a Tikka up in Minneapolis. They want $599.00 for it. In Des Moines I can get the Ruger for $529.00. Both guns are an hour and a half away from me.

What do you think?

I'm getting psycho over this deal!

Is there a reason why you insist on a .270 ?   There's nothing wrong with a 270, I was just wondering why that particular caliber.

Maybe something in the upper end of the Savage line will help.

You have also neglected Remington.  Is there a reason why you dont consider Remington?  The Model 7 might just be what you are looking for.

Save yourself the drive and go to your local Wal-mart and ask to see the special order gun catalog at the sporting goods counter. You can order a variety of Ruger MkII's in .270 for less than $550.00.

OK. The deal is done. I found a retailer in Des Moines that is holding my rifle till tomorrow. Ruger in .270 on clearance for $449.00.

Money talks. And at that price I can get a replacement trigger instead of doing the job myself.

Thank everyone!
