Upgraded my Wolverine
« on: July 27, 2006, 04:52:51 PM »
I updated my Excaliber Wolverine with new Mag Tip limbs and will keep the carved tips for a spare set. Bought a stringer so I can replace my own strings and adjust the Flemish Fast Flight string that came with the limbs. I sure do like these Excalibers they are smooth to shoot and very accurate.

Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

I was on Excal forum and read where you had done the up grade limb thing. I so glad you like the Excal. I have been doing lots of practice, i have a rifle scope on mine 1.5x6. From 0 to 40 yds. i am good to go. Started using Bheads in 3-D deer target yesterday. Still shoot bag with field points, shooting 2 and 3 dz.times a day. Less than 60 days now.

I like the 3 dot sight on mine because I do not have to guess hold over for the 30 yard shots if it is sighted for 20 yards. at 40 I still have to hold over about 6 inches useing the 40 yard dot due to the fact that the Wolverine is not as fast as this sight was designed for 300 fps. Still at 20 and 30 it is right on.

Glad you like the 3 dot setup, i had only 2 rifle scopes to use. Will have to save up fer a xbow scope. Not really into the hold under and over but have been doing lots of practice. All my stands have 40 yds. and less shot windows. I will try it out on the Doe population here without any fawns. Last year i had 5 of them come by, all during ML season. I have harvested so many Doe's and small Bucks with Rifle and ML's. I just quit taking them with anything but a Bow. So its Xbow fer Doe's and i don't use a rifle on the 65 acres i hunt. 55 days til its freezer meat time.

I meant to ask you about the up grade on Wolverine? Does it equal a Vixen now? I have been trying to find a used Vixen that someone wants to trade. I have a Model 96 Swedish Mauser 6.5x55 Bolt action 1899 all #'s match No.1 bore. The older black models they won't part with, but may find a brown one.

Good luck with your search for a Vixen I like those Swedes I have one I made into a scout rifle for deer hunting. Yea I am thinking my Wolverine would equal a Vixen now the way it is set up. Not sure about the draw length if it is exactly the same, but all the limbs are the same it is the riser that is different on the different models from what I have heard. This set up gives me a bit more speed than the carved tips but that could be the FFF string too that makes the difference.
